Generally, it takes 8 to 9 working days for the Tibet Tourism Bureau to complete your Tibet travel permit. After the TTB issues the permit, your travel advisor will send it to your accommodation in mainland China or hand it over to your Tibetan guide. It may take an additional 3 to 4 days to issue your permit. Therefore, we recommend that you send a photocopy of your passport and your Chinese visa at least 20 days before your trip to Tibet. Furthermore, during the high season for visiting Tibet (April to October) and the Chinese festival season, your Tibet permit application will take longer to process and deliver. In such cases, it is best to talk to your travel agent a few days before starting your Tibet tour and the Tibet travel permit will be confirmed.
Alpine Travel Treks & Expeditions will help you secure your Tibet permit within 4 to 5 days in rare emergency situations. In such cases, you will have to pay an additional fee.
How Much Does a Tibet Permit Cost?
In most cases, the Tibet entry permit cost is included in your Tibet package and does not require any additional payment. When you are planning a Tibet trip, most travel agencies provide Tibet permit service free of charge, and make sure to provide it to you before you head to Tibet. If you are entering Tibet from Nepal, you will need to obtain a China Group Visa Application. For this purpose, your travel agency will charge you a nominal fee to handle the Chinese Group Visa at the Chinese Embassy in Nepal. Similarly, they may also charge a nominal fee to handle your Tibet travel permit application and deliver it to you on your behalf. Please note that it is not possible to obtain your Tibet travel permit by applying online.
