Home > How to Apply For a Tibet Travel Permit?

Unlike a regular Chinese visa, the Tibet Travel Permit application must be coordinated with the Tibet Tourism Bureau through a licensed travel consultant. You must submit your Tibet Permit application in Tibet as it can only be handled by the Tibet Tourism Bureau. Furthermore, to apply for the permit, you will need help from an authorized travel agency as visiting Tibet is not possible without a Tibet Travel Permit. Furthermore, you must also verify the details of your trip, such as the itinerary, entry, and return dates. All these details must be included in the Tibet Permit. To apply for the permit, you must also provide the following documents along with the Tibet Permit application:

  1. Passport:
  • Your passport, through which you are applying for a Chinese visa, must be valid for at least six months
  • If you have a Chinese visa in your previous passport that is no longer valid, you must provide both passports to your travel agency. When in Tibet, you must also bring both passports.
  1. Chinese Visa/Chinese Group Visa:
  • When entering Tibet from another part of China, you must apply for a Chinese visa from the Chinese Embassy in your country.
  • If you are entering Tibet from Nepal, you must obtain a Chinese Group Visa from the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu, Nepal.
  • If you already have a Chinese visa in your passport, you will need to cancel it to obtain a Chinese Group Visa.
