Home > Leh Ladakh Attractions

Set deep in the Indian Himalayas on the western edge of the Tibetan Plateau, Ladakh, or “Little Tibet”, is a mysterious land that remains untouched by the outside world. Ladakh – the ‘Land of High Passes’ – is one of the most stunning parts of the Indian Himalayas. An oasis of peace and natural beauty, Ladakh is an ideal retreat for those living in cosmopolitan cities. Here we have listed some of the notable attractions around Ladakh:

Leh, Ladakh:

Leh Palace attractions

At 3,500 meters, the capital city of Ladakh welcomes you with its towering mountains. Leh was once an integral part of western Tibet. The quiet, willow-lined streets and bustling market life of the 17th-century capital of Singye Namgyal give you a chance to experience historic Tibet. There is loads to see in Leh. The newly restored ruins of the 17th-century Leh Palace, the old 15th-century Leh Fort and the attached Namgyal Semo Gompa, other historic Tibetan Buddhist monasteries, mosques, small old shops, many old stupas and narrow back alleys with architecture. All give your eyes and heart plenty to see and feel.

Tso Moriri Lake:

Tso Moriri lake a little piece of heaven

Located at 4,530 meters, Tso Moriri is one of the main attractions of Ladakh. After passing a small rocky section with white rocks on our right, an incredibly reflective section of the lakeside, flat multi-hued slate and mica on the shore, you reach Tso Moriri, a little piece of heaven. Powerful, eternal, vast, abundant, clear, beautiful and pure, Tso Moriri touches and moves you like only nature can. The lake’s water is fed by springs and the surrounding mountains. At Tso Moriri, all you can do is lean back and feel the joy of having the opportunity to witness it.

Tso Kar Lake:

Tso Kar Lake is the ‘salt lake’ of Rupsu, once the site of a large salt mine of the Rupsu-Pa nomads

Trek along the salt marshes and salt flats of Tso Kar Lake. Further ahead, the salty, crusted and baked plateaus sit the more rugged grasslands of Tso Kar, in all their glory. Tso Kar Lake is the ‘salt lake’ of Rupsu, once the site of a large salt mine of the Rupsu-Pa nomads. Today, Tso Kar Lake is not as salty as it once was, and the importance of the salt trade has declined, but this wetland still has an abundance of bird life, especially the long-legged wader and the rare migratory crane.

Pangong Lake:

This beautiful reservoir is about 134 km long and 60 percent of the lake is in China.

Ladakh is the land of the most beautiful high altitude lakes. And one of the most beautiful and popular is Pangong Lake. This beautiful reservoir is about 134 km long and 60 percent of the lake is in China. If you take a ride along the lake, you will be visiting two countries. The clear blue water of the lake reflects the towering mountains all around. The natural beauty with its calm and serene atmosphere seems too good to be true. One loses all sense of time and space while drinking in the enchanting landscape. A few years ago, it was a beautiful brackish lake that very few people knew about. It was relatively unknown before it was popularized by the Bollywood blockbuster film 3 Idiots.
