Frequently Asked Questions
Peak is considered difficult to climb, with an altitude of over 6,000 meters and a sleeping at height of 5,000 meters. Climbers in particular need excellent physical and mental health. On the day of the summit climb, you will leave base camp at 2 am and return to base camp only in the afternoon. This grade includes the use of climbing equipment (harness, ice axe, crampons, mountaineering boots, screwgate carabiner, descender/figure of eight). Previous experience is required and you will also take a climbing course at base camp before the actual climb, where your climbing guide will teach you the proper way to use the equipment for climbing.
Climbing Dhampus Peak is possible all year round, except during the peak season, the best time to climb Dhampus Peak is spring and autumn. Spring season lasts from March to early June and autumn lasts from September to November when the temperature is moderate and the weather is clear. However, we do not recommend climbing during the peak and winter months.
You will be guided by experienced and knowledgeable Sherpa climbing leaders who have successfully summited the peak multiple times. Some climbing leaders have climbed Everest at least once or a few times in their climbing career. Your climbing guide will support you from day one, providing important tips and teaching you tricks. They will also provide you with pre-climb training the day before the climb at base camp. Our climbing guides take the climbing journey seriously. This will ensure that your health or well-being is not at risk.
The guides have many years of guiding experience in trekking/climbing. Most have been exploring the Himalayas for years. Our guides are also trained in first aid and know how to handle any situation. They also have enough experience in taking visitors to special places or special cultures, which can engage people in what they are experiencing, explain it well and entertain them. Like any high-altitude mountaineering activity, climbing Dhampus Peak has inherent risks. These include altitude sickness, avalanches, rockfalls, and extreme weather conditions. It is important to follow safety protocols, wear proper weather gear, and be prepared for emergencies.
Dhampus Peak is technically known as a ‘trekking peak’, but when it comes to packing, it requires a lot more than you might expect from a regular trek. The right kind of equipment and gear play a crucial role in successfully attempting to climb Dhampus Peak. We recommend the following gear and kit for climbing Dhampus Peak:
- Waterproof Duffel Bag
- 40L Back pack (daypack)
- Shirts and t-shirts
- Set of thermals (tops & bottoms)
- Fleece Jacket
- Shell Rain Jacket
- Down Jacket
- Lightweight hiking trousers
- Waterproof/Windproof pants
- Socks
- Buff

- Gloves & Mittens
- Hiking boots
- Mountain climbing boots
- Flip flops and slippers
- Sleeping bag
- Water bottles

- Scarf & warm hat
Besides the regular items that you would pack for a typical trekking trip, read more for other essential peak climbing equipment and familiarize yourself with the kits you will be carrying along for the trekking and climbing.
While it is possible to climb Dhampus Peak without a guide, it is recommended to hire experienced local climbing guides or Sherpas who are familiar with the route, terrain, and have knowledge of high-altitude mountaineering. They can provide guidance, support, and increased safety during the climb.
The duration of the climb can vary depending on factors like individual fitness levels, acclimatization, and weather conditions. On average, it takes around 12-15 days for a complete climbing expedition, including trekking to the base camp and acclimatization days.
It’s mandatory and highly recommended to get travel insurance before embarking on any adventurous trips. We advise all our clients to get travel insurance that covers up emergency helicopter evacuation that may be needed in case of the occurrence of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) or any other reasons in high altitudes where there are no other means of transportation available. It is advisable to review carefully the insurance and its coverages before making the final decision. More information: Travel Insurance
