Dhampus (Thapa) Peak Climb is a popular non-technical trekking peak in Nepal located in the northwestern Annapurna region. The Dhampus Peak climbing adventure offers a series of experiences starting with a trek from the last restricted state of Mustang to Dhampus Peak (6,012m/19,724ft). Dhampus Peak, also known as Thapa Peak, is located northeast of Dhaulagiri (8,167m/26,795 ft), the seventh highest mountain in the world. It was first ascended in 1960 by Austrian mountaineer Kurt Diemberger. Since then, Dhampus Peak has gained immense popularity as an easy trekking peak in the Annapurna range. This trek also provides an opportunity to explore the flora and fauna of the subalpine and temperate high mountain regions of the Annapurna Conservation Area. Along with this, you will have an amazing experience witnessing the unique culture and traditions of the Thakali and Tibetan Buddhist communities living in ancient Mustang.

The Dhampus Peak Climbing itinerary start from Kathmandu to Pokhara city and then west to Tatopani. The trek starts from Tatopani and reaches Ghasa, Larjung and Marpha villages along the Kaligandaki River. The trek moves from Yak Kharka to high altitudes and crosses the Dhampus/Thapa Pass before reaching Dhampus Peak. The trek continues along the same route back to Kalopani, Tatopani. And our journey will end with a drive back to Kathmandu via Pokhara.

There are alternative routes to climb Dhampus Peak, one that goes around Dhaulagiri from the west and goes east via French Pass and then back east after the climb. However, we have not mentioned it here as this route is easy and short. You can easily condition climb Dhampus Peak without any obstacles from this route.

Climbing Dhampus Peak is most popular in spring and autumn but can also be done in winter and summer due to its non-technical nature. Dhampus Peak is snow-capped and slightly steep but straight and less physically demanding. There is an average of 5 to 7 hours of trekking each day for eight days with one day climb. It reaches a maximum altitude of (6,012m/19,724ft) on the peak. Although prior summit climbing experience is not mandatory, a person needs to be physically fit to have the best climbing experience of their lifetime.
