Everest Base Camp Heli Trek – 12 Days Overview

Everest Base Camp Heli Trek begins with a spectacular flight to Lukla after staying two nights in Kathmandu. From Lukla, we will walk past the dense forest of pine and rhododendrons in Sagarmatha National Park and pass through small ethnic villages to the Sherpa Land of Namche Bazaar. We have scheduled 2 nights at Namche Bazar and 2 nights at Dingboche for acclimatization purposes. On these days, we climb high and sleep low allowing our bodies to adapt to the increasing altitude. We will follow the classic Everest Base Camp trekking route to the Base Camp via Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, and Gorakshep. We then move further to Kalapathar for the unobstructed view of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and surrounding mountains.

From Kalapathar, we will retrace to Gorakshep for breakfast and board a helicopter flight all the way back to Kathmandu the same day instead of walking all the way to Lukla to catch a plane flight back. The helicopter tour flight also allows us to witness the Himalayas from a closer view and high above the grounds. So, get the best alternative to the Everest Base Camp Trek. This package is for those who have a very limited time for exploration. Since you will be flying to Kathmandu from Gorakshep on a helicopter, you can avoid the same returning trail back to Lukla. Day 01 :

Arrival in Kathmandu airport and transfer to hotel

Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, Nepal. After completing visa formalities and collecting your luggage at the airport, please exit the arrival hall. Your tour leader will be waiting for you just outside the arrival hall and will take you to hotel in Kathmandu. Please look for a placard with your name on it at the exit of the arrival hall. Then depending on the time, you will have time to walk around the hotel and familiarize yourself near hotel.

Day 02 :

Exploration of Kathmandu and Trek preparation

Today is a full-day Kathmandu tour; in which you will explore various UNESCO sites in Kathmandu. We will start our tour with a visit to Pashupatinath, the holiest Hindu temple in Nepal. We will witness the Hindu cremation ceremony at Aryaghat, located on the banks of the Bagmati River. And we will visit Boudhanath, the largest Buddhist stupa in Nepal. We can see the rich Tibetan culture at Boudhanath. Similarly, we will end the day’s tour by visiting Kathmandu Durbar Square, the old royal residence of Nepal.

Day 03 :

Fly to Lukla from Kathmandu/Ramechhap

Depending on the month of your trip, your flight to Lukla will depart from Kathmandu or Ramechhap Airport. During high season, flights to Lukla usually operate from Ramechhap, which is 130 km east of Kathmandu, requiring a 4-hour drive. If your flight departs from Ramechhap, you will need to wake up at 2:00 AM to start the drive, and the flight itself takes only 15 minutes. Upon arrival in Lukla, you will begin your trek up the Dudhkoshi Valley on a well-marked trail, making your way to Phakading for the night.

Lukla Flights: The approximate dates for Ramechhap Airport operations are March 25 to May and September 20 to November. During other months, flights depart from Kathmandu Airport.

Day 04 :

Trek to Namche Bazar from Phakding

We will continue our journey along the banks of the Dudhkoshi River, which will take us through pine forests. After crossing several suspension bridges, we will reach Monjo. In front of Monjo is the entrance to the Everest National Park, which is planned to care for and protect the fragile mountain environment. Descending from the park, crossing another suspension bridge, we will proceed towards the high Hillary Bridge located at the foot of the mountain. Crossing this bridge, we will climb to Namche Bazaar. If the weather is clear, we can see the view of the Thamserku mountain range. As well as the first view of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Kusum Khangru mountains.

Day 05 :

Rest and Acclimatization Day

We will stay an extra night in Namche to ensure proper environmental acclimatization to the altitude. Namche, a thriving village nestled in a large protected hollow, offers an opportunity to adjust to the high altitude. After breakfast, you have a few options: you can trek to the Everest View Hotel or explore nearby villages such as Khumjung and Khunde. After our lunch, you will also have free time to explore the bustling town of Namche Bazaar.

Day 06 :

Trek to Deboche from Namche Bazar

We will walk along the glacial waters of the Dudh Koshi River. This route offers views of Mount Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Thamserku and Ama Dablam. Our journey continues through the colorful forest of blooming redbuds to Sanasa. This area is teeming with wildlife including musk deer and colorful pheasants. There is also a junction point at Sanasa, one path takes us to the Gokyo Valley while the other branch leads to the Everest Base Camp. We will make a steep climb to Tengboche Monastery, the largest monastery in the Khumbu region. The trek rewards us with close-up views of many of the surrounding mountains. We will visit the monastery and walk through the forest of birch and redbuds to Deboche where we will spend the night.

Day 07 :

Trek to Dingboche from Deboche

We hike through some chortens, money walls and some small villages, then we go up for some hay, and while enjoying our lunch we enjoy some frontal views of the upper Amadablam; we hike through Pangboche, the highest of the real permanent settlements in the valley, and the last steep climb of the day on the way to Dingboche, a regular settlement. Where the main occupation of the locals of Dingboche is agriculture. In Dingboche we can see fields surrounded by stone walls. Which are cereals, potatoes and barley.

Day 08 :

Rest and acclimatization day with a hike to Nagartsang Peak

This is a day to rest. But as we, our hike up to Nagartsang Peak (5,083m) will acclimate us to the environment, helping us prepare for the high altitudes ahead. The climb may be difficult, but reaching the summit is rewarding. From the top, enjoy panoramic views of Ama Dablam, Island Peak, Lhotse, and other majestic peaks. After taking in the stunning views, we will return to Dingboche for a relaxing afternoon of rest and recovery.

Day 09 :

Trek to Lobuche from Dingboche

Today our trek continues past some tea houses in Duglha, we climb up the dangerous gorges of the Khumbu Glacier, passing a series of stone monuments built to commemorate Sherpas who died on Everest expeditions. From here, the trail descends and heads west across the valley to Lobuche. From this point, it will be a wonderful sight to watch the sunset over Nuptse.

Day 10 :

Trek to Everest Base Camp and retrace back to Gorakshep for overnight

Today is the day we reach Everest Base Camp! It is an early start as we embark on an 8 to 10 hour trek. The route passes through icy peaks and passes through the crevasses of the Khumbu Glacier. From Lobuche, it is a 3 hour trek to Gorekshep. Where after a short lunch and rest, we proceed to the final stage of Everest Base Camp, crossing the once vast Gorekshep dry lake. The final stage from Gorekshep to the base camp takes about 2 to 3 hours. Once at Everest Base Camp, spend some time soaking in the incredible surroundings before returning to Gorakshep for an overnight stay. And return to Gorakshep via the same route for the night.

Day 11 :

Early morning hike up to Kalapatter and fly back to Kathmandu

Today, hike to Kala Patthar early in the morning for stunning panoramic views of Everest and surrounding peaks.

We start early in the morning to witness the first light of day shining on Everest and take in the dramatic views from Kala Patthar. Be prepared for a chilly morning with temperatures ranging from -5 to -10 degrees Celsius. From Gorekshep, it takes 2-3 hours of hiking to reach the top of Kala Patthar. To the east are familiar peaks such as Lingtren, Khumbutse and Changtse Tower, where Everest is majestically visible between the tip of its western shoulder and Nuptse. We will spend some time at the top taking as many photos as possible before returning to Gorekshep for breakfast.

After breakfast, take a helicopter flight to Kathmandu. Flights usually depart between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM. First, we will fly from Gorakshep to Lukla, and from Lukla to Kathmandu. Expect some waiting time in Lukla. The flight time from Gorakshep to Lukla is approximately 12 minutes and from Lukla to Kathmandu is 45 minutes. The helicopter flight from Gorakshep offers incredible views of the trail you just walked and the surrounding mountains, making it a highlight of the trek.

Day 12 :

International Departure or join alternative activities

After breakfast and on our last day in Kathmandu, our vehicle and escorts will be ready to take you to the international airport three hours before your scheduled flight. It has been a great honor to meet you in the glorious Himalayas, and we pray for your safe journey home. We will remember the wonderful times we spent together. Have a nice trip!!! ACCOMMODATION

We will stay in Kathmandu at Hotel Vajra or similar category, which is a standard tea house/lodge during the trek, and this is all included in the cost of the trip. However; during the trek, your accommodation will be in simple teahouses/lodges with basic and shared facilities.

Most teahouses/lodges in the Everest region have squat toilets: most bathrooms are usually shared but we will arrange for you and your group to stay in local lodges on a daily basis. Please note that some of them are very basic and a sense of adventure is required.

In Kathmandu, your accommodation will be on a twin-shared basis and if you wish to have a single room, upon request you will need to pay a single supplement as mentioned in the trip cost. However, please note that there are less teahouses along the trekking route that do not allow single room accommodation. Paying a supplement guarantees a room in Kathmandu, but this may not always be possible in high altitude trekking areas. It’s generally impossible to arrange private rooms. This is the case even if you’re willing to pay extra since the teahouses owners will not give out a private room if it means someone else goes without a room.

MEALS ON THE TREK

During the trek, we will serve typical Nepali food, various ethnic dishes as well as all kinds of international dishes (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, and so on, Indian cuisine) from pizza and chips to apple pie. And breakfast includes bread, eggs, pancakes, muesli, granola, konflux, porridge as well as tea, coffee and hot milk with fresh fruits. Similarly, hot lunch will be served on the way to our next destination. Upon reaching the destination, meals and breakfast will be served at the teahouse/lodge where we will spend the night. However, in Kathmandu, we will only provide breakfast. Because you can taste the food you like, as there are high-quality delicious foods from different countries available. Therefore, you will have to arrange your own lunch and dinner during your stay in Kathmandu.

DRINKING WATER

We provide boiled water for drinking purposes in all our teahouses/lodges or camping treks. We strictly discourage the use of single-use plastic bottles such as mineral water on all our treks. Therefore, it is highly recommended to carry a hot water bottle. And you can ask your staff to fill the bottle with water.

NOTICE: Domestic flights to and from Lukla.

Unexpected weather conditions in the Everest region can sometimes cause Lukla flights to be canceled. So; what do you do if your flight is canceled at the last minute? If you have limited time in Nepal, we have several alternative options for Lukla flight cancellation. Be well-informed about this important issue in advance!

How Hard is it to trek to Everest Base Camp?

The Everest Base Camp trek is a moderate/demanding trek that does not require any technical expertise in mountaineering. It is basically a long trek up to an altitude of 5,357m/17,575ft. The trek is only difficult because the path goes up and down through various terrains. Therefore, you should be moderately fit and enjoy walking and acclimatizing to high altitude conditions. Having previous experience to participate in this trek is definitely beneficial but not mandatory. All travelers need to be in good physical health to fully participate in this trek. We advise you to prepare for your trek by exercising regularly, walking, running or going to the gym. The fitter you are, the more enjoyable the trekking experience will be. All our itineraries are prepared with every aspect in mind and allow ample time for weather acclimatization.

What is the best time to trek to Everest Base Camp?

The best time to trek Everest Base Camp is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (October to November) months when the weather is favorable and suitable for climbing at high altitudes. These seasons offer crystal-clear mountain views with clear skies. The trek can also be done in February and early September but the trek is best done during the above months. What Kinds of gear are needed to Everest Base Camp trek?

Everest Base Camp trek is a teahouse/lodge trek. Unlike the peak climb, you will not be sleeping in tents but at teahouses or lodges.
