Early in the morning, we take a mountain flight from Kathmandu to Lukla on a STOL plane. The airstrip, built by Sir Edmund Hillary and the Sherpas in the mid-1960s, has a flight time of about 35 minutes. In Lukla we are immediately overcome by the scale of the great peaks surrounding the village but this is only a hint of what could be. After meeting the team, we drive to Dudh Koshi Valley on a well-marked trail and then stay overnight at Phakding.

We will continue our journey to Dudhkoshi river through pine forest. After crossing suspension bridges at several points and passing the small settlements of Zapute, Toktok, Benkar and Chumoa, we reach Monzo. The plan is to care for and protect the fragile mountain environment that enters Everest National Park in front of Monzo. Descending from the park, we cross another suspension bridge and head towards the towering Hillary Bridge at the foot of the hill. After crossing this bridge we climb to Namche Bazaar. Thamserku Himal can be seen. If the weather is clear, one can see the first sight of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Kusum Khangru.

We stay at Namche for the second night to adjust to the altitude. Namche is a prosperous village, situated on a large protected moat. After breakfast, we proceed to Everest View Hotel and proceed to Khumjung for lunch. Your guides will be on hand to advise you and help you on your walk.

We will wade through the glacial waters of the Dudhkoshi River. This route offers views of Mount Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse and Thamserku and Mata Dablam. Our journey continues through the colorful forest of blooming rhododendron till Sanasa. The area is rich in wildlife including musk deer and colorful pheasants. There is a junction point at Sanasa. One route will take us to Gokyo Valley while the other will take us to Mt Base Camp. We will climb steeply to Tengboche Monastery, the largest gompa in the Khumbu region. The trip offers us close-up views of many surrounding mountains. We will visit a monastery and walk through a forest of birch and rhododendron to Debuche where we will stay the night.

We walk through some chortens, gem walls and some small villages, then we go for some fun and savor some more views of Ama Dablam above us while enjoying our food. We hike through Pangboche, the highest of the valley's true permanent settlements, and reach a regular settlement en route to Dingboche, the biggest climb of the day. The main occupation of Dingboche locals is agriculture. We can see fields surrounded by stone walls at Dingboche. Wheat, potatoes and barley are the main crops.

Climb up and sleep!! It is a day of rest, not idleness. Our trek up to Nagaratsanga Peak [5,083m/16,625ft] heightens our sense of disembodiedness and as we scramble up it, we soon realize that it was worth the arduous climb. This acclimatization helps to acclimatize with the high altitude, then return to Dingboche for a free afternoon to relax.

After passing a few teahouses at Dugla, we climb the beautiful precarious moraine of the Khumbu Glacier, passing a chain of stone monuments commemorating the Sherpas who lost their lives climbing the mountain. From here, the trail narrows and climbs up the west side of the valley. To Lobuche. It is an amazing sight to watch the sunset over Nuptse from this point.

Reaching Everest Base Camp requires a real early start. It takes several hours as the trail weaves its way past the icy peaks and crevasses of the Khumbu Glacier. After a short lunch and rest, we drive to Everest base camp via the once huge Gorak Shep Lake. We truly appreciate the Everest climbers who trek the perilous route through the Khumbu Icefall only after reaching Everest Base Camp. The climber's tents stand out in bright colors against the monotony of the gray surroundings (especially in spring). Nuptse, Khumbuste and Pumori mountains can be seen from the base camp. On the return leg, we can take the higher route for a magnificent view of the Khumbu Icefall and the route to the southern col. We return to Gorkshep.

Today is the most important part of our journey. We start early in the morning to take in the dramatic views from Kalapattar, seeing the first light of day glimmering on Mount Everest. However, we should prepare in advance for an early morning, dark and cold temperature (-5 to -15 degrees Celsius) departure. Also, there is always the possibility of cold winds which are very common. Although in the east familiar peaks like Lingtran, Khumbuste, Changtse Tower can be seen between the West Shoulder and the summit of Nuptse. During the climb to Kalapathar we can catch our breath at many great views to click pictures. After a few hours of climbing we reach Kalapathar. From here, we swing to climb a rocky outcrop near the summit marked by cairns and prayer flags. When we reach the top, we sit on the black rock cliffs and our eyes take in incredible Himalayan views, rolling from one mighty massif to another. We take as many pictures as possible with our cameras so they last a lifetime. After this we slowly descend to Pheriche. For a good night's rest that we really deserve.

Today we descended, we retraced our previous route to Pangboche and Tengboche. We will make a light landing at Fortes Tenga, a teahouse settlement. We will descend the mountain through forests of pine and rhododendron. We will cross the wooden bridge over Dudhkoshi river and head towards Sanasa village. From here the trail climbs up the valley and then gradually descends on foot to Namche Bazaar where you can stay overnight.

Last day of our trek through Dudhkoshi River to Lukla. After coming down from Namche, it is only a walk to Dudhkoshi river. We had lunch on the way and took the last flight to Lukla airstrip. The rest of the day is free and you can relax under the warm sun and reflect on the emotional experiences we had while hiking through these massive mountains that helped us rediscover ourselves in a possibly least expected way. This is our last day in these magnificent mountains. Later we celebrate the successful completion of our trek with our Sherpa guides and porters who we have come to know well and are now good friends. Happy to end this amazing journey on a happy note. Then we fell into a blissful sleep.

We wake up early in the morning, enjoy our rest/fast and get ready for the arrival of our plane for our flight back to Kathmandu. On our touchdown at Kathmandu airport, we will be met by our office representatives and transferred to your hotel. The rest of your day is free to do your own thing.

Thanks for joining us on this trek and it's been a pleasure getting to know you during this time. This is the last day of our trip. So we will transfer your departure flight homebound or to the airport for another destination. We look forward to welcoming you on your next adventure in Nepal. Safe travels!! We hope to see you again. Namaste!
