Tengboche Monastery Track or as we like to call ‘Mountains and Monastery’ is one of the short trekking holidays in Nepal in the best Khumbu region of Nepal. A perfect trek for those who want to experience to Himalayan. in a short day and are not ready for high altitude. Tengboche Monastery gets into trekking gear with an excellent mountain flight to Lukla Airport. The flight time is around 35 minutes and you can enjoy the magnificent views of the mountains from your window. Make sure you sit on the left side of the plane for the best first view of the Everest region. Upon your arrival in Lukla, you will be met by the rest of the crew. Our porters will load your bags and gear up for the trek. Pass Dudhkoshi River via Phakding to Namche Bazar and trek to Everest View Hotel and surrounding villages and spend two nights in this environment. We continue our journey to Tengboche, from where you can get a great view of Everest and the surrounding mountains. Visit Tengboche Monastery, the largest monastery in the Everest region and retrace our steps to Lukla the next day. The maximum elevation of our Tengboche Monastery trek is 3,860m at Tengboche, making this trek a perfect moderate trek in short duration.

Day 01 :

Arrival in Kathmandu airport and transfer to hotel

Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, Nepal. After completing visa formalities and collecting your luggage at the airport, please exit the arrival hall. Your tour leader will be waiting for you just outside the arrival hall and will take you to hotel in Kathmandu. Please look for a placard with your name on it at the exit of the arrival hall. Then depending on the time, you will have time to walk around the hotel and familiarize yourself near hotel.

Day 02 :

In Kathmandu, sightseeing and trek preparation

Today is a full-day Kathmandu tour; in which you will explore various UNESCO sites in Kathmandu. We will start our tour with a visit to Pashupatinath, the holiest Hindu temple in Nepal. We will witness the Hindu cremation ceremony at Aryaghat, located on the banks of the Bagmati River. And we will visit Boudhanath, the largest Buddhist stupa in Nepal. We can see the rich Tibetan culture at Boudhanath. Similarly, we will end the day’s tour by visiting Kathmandu Durbar Square, the old royal residence of Nepal.

Day 03 :

Fly to Lukla from Kathmandu/Ramechhap

Depending on the month of your trip, your flight to Lukla will depart from Kathmandu or Ramechhap Airport. During high season, flights to Lukla usually operate from Ramechhap, which is 130 km east of Kathmandu, requiring a 4-hour drive. If your flight departs from Ramechhap, you will need to wake up at 2:00 AM to start the drive, and the flight itself takes only 15 minutes. Upon arrival in Lukla, you will begin your trek up the Dudhkoshi Valley on a well-marked trail, making your way to Phakading for the night.

Lukla Flights: The approximate dates for Ramechhap Airport operations are March 25 to May and September 20 to November. During other months, flights depart from Kathmandu Airport.

Day 04 :

Trek to Namche Bazar from Phakding

After a good breakfast in Phakding, we head to the hill junction town of Namche; we cross the river on high-arched suspension bridges. Beyond Monjo is the entrance to the Sagarmatha National Park, which was established to protect and conserve the fragile mountain environment. We then make a steep trek to Namche Bazaar. If the weather is clear, we get our first glimpse of Everest. Namche is the main trading village in Khumbu and has a busy bazaar - a meeting place for Hindu and Buddhist traders who have crossed the glacial Nangpa La. Namche is the gateway to Khumbu. We set off here for the night.

Day 05 :

Rest & Acclimatization day at Namche Bazar

Namche Bazaar is an ideal place to spend the day getting used to the new altitude before heading to Tengboche. To acclimatize, you will visit the Khunde Hospital, founded by Sir Edmund Hillary, or take an hour-long trek to the Everest View Hotel above Namche for sunset views of Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse and Everest. We then head to Khumjung, where we visit the school founded by Hillary. Bypassing the Khunde route, we begin our trek after enjoying lunch. There are also good views from the National Park Center and Museum above the town. After going through our acclimatization exercises, we head to our lodge for a good night’s sleep.

Day 06 :

Trek to Tengboche from Namche Bazaar

We will walk along the glacial waters of the Dudh Koshi River. The route offers views of Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse and Thamserku and Ama Dablam. Our journey takes us through colorful forests to Sanasa where the blooming red buds are visible. The area is rich in wildlife, including musk deer and colorful pheasants. There is a junction point at Sanasa. One path takes us to the Gokyo Valley, while the other branch takes us to the Everest Base Camp. We will make a steep climb to the largest monastery in the Khumbu region, Tengboche Monastery. The trek offers us close-up views of many of the surrounding mountains.

Day 07 :

Trek to Monjo from Tengboche

Start your trek early after breakfast. Descend to the Imjatse River, then a steep climb of about an hour will take you to Sanasa. From there, a winding path will take you to Namche Bazaar. Have your lunch for the day at a nice restaurant in Namche. Then, as you look back at the village and Mount Everest in the background, you will follow the rugged path into the lush forest. You may also spot musk deer, Himalayan Tahr, or the rare red panda. The path takes a steep descent to the Dudh Koshi River. Cross the river via the suspension bridge at Jorsale. This is the buffer zone of the Everest National Park. From there, you will walk south to Monjo village. Monjo is a small village that is also known as the checkpoint or entrance to the national park. Stay here tonight.

Day 08 :

Trek to Lukla from Monjo

After breakfast, you will take the first leg of the trek down to Benkar. From there, you will walk across a suspension bridge and reach the ghat for lunch. From there, continue your trek through a steep gorge. The climb is gradual until you reach the village of Chablung. Cross a dense forest of birch and juniper; then, you will soon reach the Pasang Lhamu memorial gate. Where you will leave your bags after reaching your standard lodge in Lukla, then hit the road and have fun with the locals. There is a lot to explore in the small village. There are various shops in the area where you can find lovely souvenirs to take back home. The people here are friendly and welcoming. You can grab some locally made drinks and enjoy your last night in the Khumbu region with the locals and our team.

Day 09 :

Fly back to Ramechhap and then drive to Kathmandu

We will wake up early and have breakfast, then prepare for our flight back to Ramechhap Airport. After landing in Ramechhap, you will be transferred back to Kathmandu for a 4-5 hour drive. The rest of the day is free for you to relax.

Day 10 :

International departure

After breakfast and on our last day in Kathmandu, our vehicle and escorts will be ready to take you to the international airport three hours before your scheduled flight. It has been a great honor to meet you in the glorious Himalayas, and we pray for your safe journey home. We will remember the wonderful times we spent together. Have a nice trip!!! ACCOMMODATION

We will stay in Kathmandu at Hotel Vajra or similar category, which is a standard tea house/lodge during the trek, and this is all included in the cost of the trip. However; during the trek, your accommodation will be in simple teahouses/lodges with basic and shared facilities.

Most teahouses/lodges in the Everest region have squat toilets: most bathrooms are usually shared but we will arrange for you and your group to stay in local lodges on a daily basis. Please note that some of them are very basic and a sense of adventure is required.

In Kathmandu, your accommodation will be on a twin-shared basis and if you wish to have a single room, upon request you will need to pay a single supplement as mentioned in the trip cost. However, please note that there are less teahouses along the trekking route that do not allow single room accommodation. Paying a supplement guarantees a room in Kathmandu, but this may not always be possible in high altitude trekking areas. It’s generally impossible to arrange private rooms. This is the case even if you’re willing to pay extra since the teahouses owners will not give out a private room if it means someone else goes without a room.

MEALS ON THE TREK

During the trek, we will serve typical Nepali food, various ethnic dishes as well as all kinds of international dishes (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, and so on, Indian cuisine) from pizza and chips to apple pie. And breakfast includes bread, eggs, pancakes, muesli, granola, konflux, porridge as well as tea, coffee and hot milk with fresh fruits. Similarly, hot lunch will be served on the way to our next destination. Upon reaching the destination, meals and breakfast will be served at the teahouse/lodge where we will spend the night. However, in Kathmandu, we will only provide breakfast. Because you can taste the food you like, as there are high-quality delicious foods from different countries available. Therefore, you will have to arrange your own lunch and dinner during your stay in Kathmandu.

DRINKING WATER

We provide boiled water for drinking purposes in all our teahouses/lodges or camping treks. We strictly discourage the use of single-use plastic bottles such as mineral water on all our treks. Therefore, it is highly recommended to carry a hot water bottle. And you can ask your staff to fill the bottle with water.

NOTICE: Domestic flights to and from Lukla.

Unexpected weather conditions in the Everest region can sometimes cause Lukla flights to be canceled. So; what do you do if your flight is canceled at the last minute? If you have limited time in Nepal, we have several alternative options for Lukla flight cancellation. Be well-informed about this important issue in advance!

How Hard is it to trek to Tengboche Monastery?

Duration for treks of this grade stretches up to two weeks. Trails generally go above 3800 meters at maximum and on a daily basis you can expect to be walking for about 5–7 hours. Perfect setting of introduction to moderate & challenging trekking in Nepal. Activity level/physical rating is slightly harder than leisure and involves occasional difficult days. Expect ups and downs as well for there will be hills to climb as well.

What is the best time to trek to Tengboche Monastery?

The best time to trek Tengboche Monastery is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (October to November) months when the weather is favorable and suitable for climbing at high altitudes. These seasons offer crystal-clear mountain views with clear skies. The trek can also be done in February and early September but the trek is best done during the above months. Will I have to carry my own stuff for trekking?

You will only carry your day pack which will contain the essentials you will need during the hike (water, camera, extra fleece, rain jacket, sunscreen, snacks, valuables, etc.). The rest of your luggage will be carried by a porter. We provide 1 porter for every 2 participants.

What Kinds of gear are needed to Tengboche Monastery trek?

Tengboche Monastery trek is a teahouse/lodge trek. Unlike the peak climb, you will not be sleeping in tents but at teahouses or lodges.
