Gosaikunda pilgrimage Trek is the best trekking holiday in the Langtang region. The high mountain lakes at Gosaikunda of the Langtang. Tamang families in the North West of Kathmandu valley. And famous for its culture and religion with splendid views of the Himalayas. The Gosaikunda area is a great religious site.

The Trekking trails are challenging, and include long, steep, and descents. Temperate sub-alpine deep forest, sky blue gentians, epiphytic orchids. And primroses or across glacier mountain views and delightful villages. It allows you to get right in among the Himalayan peaks. We will trek in the less-traveled area than Annapurna and Everest regions, we will walk in the unpopular area for travelers. Gosaikunda pilgrimage Trek is Nepal’s pilgrimage trail in the Langtang Himalayan ranges. It remains frozen during the winter season. It is known as a frozen lake.

Gosaikunda Pilgrimage Trek

Gosaikunda pilgrimage trek provides you an opportunity to view the sacred lakes of Gosaikunda situated here a much-revered Hindu pilgrimage site. Gosaikunda Lake is believed to be created by Lord Shiva. There are many small lakes also called Kunda. We can see the Sarasvati Kunda, and also get a glimpse of the Bhairav Kunda, Surya Kunda, and Gosaikunda which are the famous and most important ones.

The Gosaikunda pilgrimage trekking gives you a glimpse into the diverse landscape, culture, and nature as well as the Panoramic view of the Langtang Himalayan Range. Langtang National park has a lot of protected fauna, they are Rhesus monkey, snow leopard, wild boar, grey wolf, and more importantly this is also a Red Panda protected zone. Known as the holy lake, it is one of the easiest and short 5 days treks in Nepal. The trek is all about reaching Gosaikunda Lake which is elevated at 4380m. This is Nepal’s one of the sacred places for both Hindus and Buddhists. These holy lakes get a lot of pilgrimage when there is a festival called Janai Purnima.

People believe the water flows directly from the lake to the Kumbeshwar Temple at Patan in Kathmandu Valley ( 60 km southwest). Hindu people chant Gayathri Mantra and change their Sacred thread (Janai). for the protection and Rakshya Bandhan-a sacred red-yellow thread tied around the wrist by the priest. We can see an image of Shiva at its center filled with water in this lake.

Trip Itinerary

Today we head out for 6 hours in the mountains northwest of Kathmandu. And while driving. We can see snow capped mountains like Annapurna 2nd Himal, Manaslu, view of Ganesh Himal, and other small peaks. We also enjoy the green scenery of mountains, rivers and villages. We can observe the lifestyle of local people through terraced fields and rustic villages. You can spend the first night of your Gosaikunda trek in the small town of Dhunche via Trishuli Bazaar, Betravati before reaching Dhunche.

On the first day of our, the progresses through oak and hemlock forests and then through rhododendron forests and pastures, with panoramic views of Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal and the Tibetan Himalayas. Also see langur monkeys playing in the forest and witness extraordinary sunset views at Ganesh Himal.

As we ascend we are leaving the silent moss covered forest. The path then gradually ascends for a while and follows the flat standard of Sing Gompa. You can visit cheese factories and Buddhist monasteries here. The location also offers great panoramic views and picturesque nature.

The trail today takes two parts. The initial trek leads to a steep climb up a cliff that marks the transition zone between the rich, cool mountain forest and the dry scrub vegetation on the slopes. The slope is a sanctuary for red pandas and offers a magnificent view of the snow-capped Ganesh Himal. After about 3 hours of climbing the hill, we reach Lauri Vinayak (3920 m).

We stop here for a lunch break and continue to follow the rough trail. We can get dramatic views of the Mount Manaslu mountain range, the Ganesh Himal range, and the Tibetan peaks to the west. Ahead of our Akha to the north are Langtang Valley and Langtang Lirung. Now we have to climb for Gosaikunda Lake as the trail climbs up into the alpine country above the tree line. After crossing the small hill, the holy lake of Gosaikunda is seen for the first time.

Today, on our free day, we will explore around Gosaikunda and Surya Kund. And also there are many other lakes near the Gosaikunda basin. These are the popular Saraswati Kund, Bhairav Kund and Suryakunda. Locals believe that Gosaikunda was built by Lord Shiva. There are many Hindu pilgrims who visit this place every August to worship and bathe during the full moon festival. Overnight at lodge in Gosaikunda

On the last day of our trek, the trails in Dhunche will go all the way through the Sing gompa, passing Lauribinayak with magnificent mountain views and forests. Stop for lunch at Singompa and take some rest.

From here the trails lead through forests of pine, silver oak and rhododendrons, past hemp plants to cross a suspension bridge over the Sing Gompa stream. Now the path spreads out on a flat level. There are mountain mineral water factories and some human settlements here. Dhunche, the headquarters of Rasuwa district, at night.

Today we are returning to Kathmandu. After breakfast get ready to take the local bus. There are also options for private jeeps. We are passing the road passing through roofs, rivers, streams, local settlements, high hills and Trishuli river. It takes about 6 to 7 hours by bus to reach your hotel in Kathmandu depending on road traffic.

  • As there are no ATMs in the trek, you should carry enough cash in the NPR for the trek.
  • Make sure, you have enough sleeping bags for high altitude.
  • Bring a universal travel adapter for power sockets, sometimes teahouses may not have an acceptor to charge your gadget.
  • It is advisable to carry a portable charger, power bank, extra batteries and memory cards on the trek.
  • Carry a DSLR camera or best gadget, to capture the best picture of the view of the mountains.
  • Ask the people before taking the photographer and take off the shoes and sandals before entering the home or temple.
