  • The climb itself takes you through a highly glaciated west face rising from the Lhotse Glacier, offering a challenging but rewarding experience.
  • You’ll also see the giant peaks of Nuptse, Lhotse Middle Peak, and Lhotse Shar
  • The most dangerous lake (Imja Tse) Lake View from the top of the Island peak is majestic
  • The trek to Island Peak also allows you to experience the unique Sherpa culture and lifestyle of the Everest region.

Island Peak is the second most sought-after climbing peak in the Everest region after the mighty Mount Everest. Located on the Chhukung Glacier between the Lhotse and Amadablam mountains, this peak descends from the southern side of the Lhotse ridge like a wing of rock, giving it the appearance of an island floating in a sea of snow. Hence, this Imja Tse got the name of its island peak.

The peak was first attempted in 1953 as a training center for climbing Everest. To this day, this peak is chosen for practice before climbing big mountains. Climbing Island Peak does not involve technical skills but requires physical strength.

The Island peak route extends through the glaciers of Imja and Lhotse to Everest National Park and Sherpa villages. Learn about the time-forgotten culture, traditions and religion of the Sherpa tribe. Spring and fall are the two best seasons to climb Island Peak.

Therefore: Our Island Peak Climbing Itinerary follows a carefully planned approach with an acclimatization trek to Everest Base Camp and Kalapathar. Instead of directly attempting the Island peak, we will finally reach the Island Peak Base Camp with a plan to climb Everest Base Camp (5,364m), Kalapathar (5,545m). Combing Island Peak Climb success ratio with Everest base camp trek for acclimatization will be greatly increased and we have allowed enough time for the climb and also scheduled a contingency day in our itinerary to maximize the summit potential. Your safety is our prime concern and we not only include enough free days in the itinerary to accommodate flexibility but all our climbing guides are well trained and certified. Island Peak with Everest Base Camp Trek offers adventure enthusiasts a great opportunity to experience both high-altitude trekking and summit climbing in the Himalayas.
