Jiri Bhandar to Everest Base Camp trek is a classic trekking trail to the foot of the world’s highest mountain, Mt. Everest, in the Khumbu region of northeastern Nepal. The 21-days trek itinerary follows the footprint of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, starting from the green hills of Jiri Bhandar to the snow-blanketed Everest Base Camp (Everest Base Camp). Traverse from the lower Solu region to the temperate subalpine terrain of Sagarmatha National Park, passing by Sherpa villages adorned with unique culture and heritage.
The Jiri Bhandar to Everest Base Camp Trek, you will begin your 21-day trip in Kathmandu with visits to UNESCO World Heritage Site before heading to the most coveted region of the country. This original route starts with a drive from Kathmandu to Jiri Bhandar in the Everest region, lower Solukhumbu region, then sets on foot to Sete, Junbesi, Nunthala, Surke before finally meeting the alternate famous Everest trail at Phakding. From there, the route progresses on to the heart of the Khumbu region at Namche Bazaar, then Tengboche and Gorkshep for a hike to Everest Base Camp. After enjoying the amazing views of eight-thousander peaks from Kala Patthar’s viewpoint, the trail descends to Lukla for a flight back to Kathmandu.
Jiri Bhandar to Everest Base Camp trek is a moderate to difficult hike and suitable for physically fit people. Minimum trekking hours are 4-5 hours and maximum 7-8 hours. Kala Patthar at 5,545m and Everest Base camp 5364m is the highest point of this trek. Both experienced and inexperienced trekkers can do this Everest Base Camp Trek from Jiri Bhandar. DETAILED ITINERARY
Upon your arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by a representative from AlpineTrav Treks who will take you to your hotel. After checking in, you may take a rest or visit near by any place. In the evening there will be a welcome dinner in a traditional Nepali Restaurant where you will be able to enjoy authentic Nepali cuisine with a brief cultural program. Overnight in Kathmandu.

Today after breakfast, you will embark on a guided tour of Kathmandu's many historical and spiritual attractions, which are also listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. You will visit the historic Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the famous 'Monkey Temple' (Swoyambhunath) and the Buddhist pilgrimage site (Boudhanath), which is one of the largest stupas in the world. You will then discuss the itinerary with your guide. Spend the night in Kathmandu.

Today, we will be heading to the northeast of Kathmandu with a long drive to Bhandar. The trip starts with a ride to Bhote Koshi River road connecting Nepal to Tibet. There are vast terraced fields and scattered houses along the way. Midway the route follows the Sun Koshi river on the side. The zig-zag road leads to a straight road passing by villages and towns of Mude, Charikot then crossing the Tama Koshi River.
In a short while, we reach Jiri at an altitude of 1,940m/6,364ft, referred to as the 'Gateway to Everest' and 'Switzerland of Nepal,' considering its proximity to Everest and the green hills, terraced fields, and views of mountains. This route was also taken by the famous duo Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay while making their expedition to Mt. Everest. you might have your belongings checked at an army checkpoint. Further ahead, the drive takes we to Bhandar for the stay. The town is filled with scattered houses among terraced fields and also a large stupa that we can visit later in the evening if time permits.

On the first day of our trek, the easy trail will lead to Sete village. The journey begins with a downhill pass along a rich green forest and crosses a few suspension bridges to Phedi. There are paddy fields and small streams along the way to distract you from the knee-bending hike. Beneath the ridge of Lamjura and Pikey Peak, there is a village called Kenja where we will take a short break. Already, the sight of Numbur Peak welcomes you to the east. The trail takes a steep climb towards Sete village. There are many lodges and tea houses here as it is a favored stop for many tourists taking the classic route to Everest Base Camp.

After breakfast, we leave Sete, today's trail passes by rhododendron and pine forest in the initial leg of the trek. In a short while, reach Ghurasey with a few houses in the middle of a lush forest. After a some break, we'll continue to Lamjura La Pass decorated with colorful prayer flags and stacked stones. Then we move amidst the fog to the forested area ahead. We come across yaks grazing in the field near Toctoc village. Passing the tall pine and rhododendron-clad forest-covered densely with moss, will take a descent now to a farming area, Junbesi.
Junbesi is a lovely village in the Everest region lower Khumbu inhabited mostly by the Sherpa community. It is known mostly for a school built by Sir Edmund Hillary during his stay here. After settling at a tea house, head out to visit the 16th century, one of the oldest monasteries in Solu, Junbesi Monastery. The ethnic people celebrate the Dumji festival in this monastery during April or May annually.

After breakfast our trek begins with a descent to the river below before crossing the wooden bridge over Junbesi Khola. The well-trodden route goes downhill before taking a steep upward climb among pastures and woodland. In a short while, you reach the ridge of Phurtyang village from where the views of Everest are visible amidst the gloomy hamlet. Beyond Phurtyang, pass another hamlet called Salung, then walk in the picturesque hillside villages towards a suspension bridge over Dudhkunda Khola. From there, it is a long and steep descent towards Taksindu La pass. Before that, you will make a stop at Ringmo settlement to have some lunch. It is known best for the apple, apricot, and peach orchards grown during favorable seasons.
Leaving Ringmo, take the upper right route to Taksindu La pass by making a 400m ascent. Depending upon the weather, you can see a vast picturesque view of the surrounding Kusum Kanguru, Thamserku, and Kantega from the top. Visit the Taksindu Gompa to the east of the pass, built in 1946, one of the biggest monasteries in the area. Continue to take a descent to Nunthala village, which is about two hours away. This village is the final stop for vehicle access; there are only walking and trekking trails from hereon. The locals get the supplies from hereon with the help of mules and yaks. Overnight stay in Nunthala.

Today, your trek begins with a walk alongside sloppy terrain leading to vast woodlands and fields. Giving way to a train of mules along the way, progress to the suspension bridge over Dudh Koshi River. From here, hike up to Jubing village filled with houses clinging to the mountainside and barley fields and terraced Kale. Reach Kharikhola settlement after a hard climb to have some lunch. From there your trek continue on the challenging stretch to the Bupsa Danda on the hilltop, from where amazing views of snow-capped mountains and distant hills come to display. The small Sherpa village is a popular stopover for many tourists who take the classic trekking trail from Jiri. Overnight stay at Bupsa.

The trail descends to the Kari La Pass on the foot of Mera peak to Everest trail. Then cross a wooden bridge over the Paiya Khola towards Puiyan village. From thereon, take another ascent uphill to be welcomed by prayer flags and mani walls to Chutok La Pass (2,945m). On a clear day, you can see Gyachung Kang and Khumbila peaks. Continue with a decline toward Surke, a small village located on a riverbank below the hill. The fertile land of Surke is best for growing food crops. This village is the final stop in the classic Jiri trail before meeting the famous alternative Everest trekking route. Overnight stay in Surke.

After breakfast, your trek route stretched alongside a cliff towards a suspension bridge to Mushe before reaching the sparsely populated settlement of Chaurikharka. Yaks and mules graze in the wide grassland, which is filled with prayer wheels and mani walls. The trail takes you to a deep gorge towards a mesmerizing waterfall. Continue on the dwindling path climbing a flight of stairs to Cheplung village. Passing by the few lodges and teahouses in the area, take a downhill walk to Thado Koshi (River). Perhaps you get to enjoy the views of Griffon vultures and up-close views of Kusum Kanguru Peak. From where. After crossing a suspension bridge, Ghat settlement is just around the corner. After having lunch, head to Chhuthawa, a small settlement with a large prayer wheel and a small monastery. Continue on the easy downhill hike to Phakding village. Entering the village, you witness stone steps, mani walls welcoming you, and a painting of Guru Rimpoche on a rock to the right. If you are up for heading out after the long trek, then take a short walk to Rimishung Monastery. Overnight stay in Phakding.

Walking through a beautiful pine forest, you will follow the trail north up the valley of Benkar. You will cross Dudh Koshi River and go on passing Chumoa to Monjo, the entrance to Everest National Park. Then after crossing a suspension bridge, you will pass Jorsale village and walk alongside of the Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi rivers. A steep ascent brings you to the prime heartland of Sherpa village – Namche Bazaar. At one hour’s distance to reaching Namche Bazaar, if the weather permits, you can view the sights of Mt. Everest and Mt. Lhotse. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.

There are many things to do around Namche Bazaar, and you can spend a day here, depending on the weather. Namche Bazaar is the main hub of the Khumbu region and has government offices, ATMs, internet cafes, shops, restaurants, and a colorful market. Your guide can take you to explore the real charm of Namche Bazaar. Trekking in the Everest National Park offers trekkers a sunrise view and views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Kongde, etc. If you are interested in a day hike, you will trek to Khumjung Village (12,401 ft) - a beautiful village with a Sherpa settlement. While exploring Namche Bazaar, you will observe traditional Sherpa life, the Khumjung Hillary School, and enjoy the flora and fauna found at such a high altitude. Spend the night in Namche Bazaar.

After breakfast, today we begin today’s trek on an easy trail to Phunki Thanga. From here we ascend towards Tengboche village which is home to the largest monastery in the Everest region. The monastery is located within the Sagarmatha National Park and provides panoramic views of the highest mountains on earth including Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Nuptse and Lhotse. We try to reach the monastery by 3:00 in the afternoon and may even be able to witness a religious Buddhist ceremony. Stay overnight at Tengboche.

Today’s trek will start with a downhill trek and will take you through lush forests filled with birch, conifers and rhododendron trees. You will continue your trek with views of Everest, Lhotse and Ama Dablam to accompany you. The scenic trek descends to Debuche, crosses the Imja River and takes you to Pangboche. As you trek up the upper Pangboche trail, you will get a more sacred view of the Himalayas and Pangboche Monastery. You will continue towards the Imja Valley, the Lobuche River and finally climb to Dingboche. The village is a beautiful airy hamlet overlooked by chortens and prayer flags. Spend the night in Dingboche.

Dingboche is a popular stop for trekkers and climbers headed to Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam or Imja Tse. The village is beautiful with an array of fields enclosed by stone walls to protect barley, buckwheat and potatoes from the cold wind and grazing animals. You will spend a day at Dingboche for acclimatization. You will take a day hike to Nagarjun Hill for great views of Makalu, Lhotse, Chalotse, Tawache, Ama Dablam and others.

Today, the trek takes you to the foot of the world's highest and Nepal's largest Khumbu glacier on the Lhotse-Nuptse ridge. The rugged and snowy trail leads to Dugla village, where you stop for lunch. A steep zig-zag climb takes you to the Thukla Pass. Also known as the Dughla pass, it is one of the saddest points in the trail as there are many memorial stupas built in honor of all the brave heated climbers who lost their lives during or after thor summit climb. Among them is a memorial stone of the departed crew members of the 1996 ill-fated dramatic expedition, turned into a movie titled 'Everest.' The Dughla pass take a descent to Lobuche settlement which lies close to the Khumbu glacier. It shares the name with the popular Lobuche peak visible from the village. Overnight stay in Lobuche.

Today, your route passes through the lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. On the way ahead, you will see the northern peak of Everest, Pumori, Mahalangur, Lingtern, Khumbutse, Nuptse and other mountains. A short climb will take you to Thangma Riju. From here, you will enjoy panoramic views of the Himalayan scenery. You will climb a steep path that will lead you to the top of the Changri Glacier. When you reach Gorak Shep, you will be surrounded by the Himalayas. After some rest, you will proceed to the Everest Base Camp. You will cross rocky dunes, moraines and streams before reaching the base camp of the world's highest mountain, Everest. From here, you will admire the Nuptse, Khumbutse and Pumori mountains. You will return to Gorak Shep and spend the night.
Alternatively, you can visit Kala Patthar today instead of the next day as many believe that the sunset view from Kala Patthar is more stunning than the sunrise view.

Early in the morning, take a hike to the most famous viewpoint of the entire Khumbu region, Kala Patthar, at the highest elevation of 5,545m). To enjoy the views of the top of Mt. Everest and the surrounding peaks, all tourists visit this vantage point. Translated to 'black rock,' it is a ridge elevated on the southern edge of Pumori peak, offering expansive panoramic views. The crest of the highest mountain in the world, Mt. Everest (8,848.86 m/ 29,031.7 ft), is finally visible. The eight-thousander peaks, such as Cho Oyu (8,188m/ 26,864 ft) and Lhotse (8,516m/ 27,940 ft), add to the beauty of the hike. Nuptse, Changtse, Pumori, and countless other peaks are seen from here. After relishing the moment, retrace your steps to Gorak Shep tea house to collect your belongings and head to Pheriche. The trail takes a downhill turn with an elevation drop, making the trek easier. Pheriche is a farming village above the Tsola river. Overnight stay in Pheriche.

You'll leaving Pheriche, the initial phase of the trek, takes a downhill hike until you reach Tengboche. From there, take an uphill climb to the village. Tracing your steps back is easier and quicker. From the village, it is a descent to reach the valley floor. Bid farewell to the Imja river valley as you cross a suspension bridge over the Dudh Koshi river. With views of Mt. Everest and Ama Dablam getting more distant and blurry, you will reach Namche Bazaar after a couple of hours. After the long trek, get settled at a teahouse and take a much-needed Hot Shower. Overnight stay in Namche Bazaar.

After breakfast, the trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla takes you on a new route. First, you trek alongside the Dudh Koshi River to Jorsale village and Monjo. Have your lunch either at Jorsale or further ahead at Phakding village. Continue your walk along with the stone steps, passing by mani walls and prayer flags. Head to a dense forest towards Pasang Lhamu Memorial Gate, the entrance to Lukla. Lukla is a small but significant town with a small airstrip, a gateway for essential supplies, and tourists to enter the Khumbu region. Alternative to the Jiri trail, which takes about a week of trekking to reach Phakding, trekkers prefer to fly to Lukla and trek to Phakding in a day. At Lukla, there are clustered houses and lodges. where, you stay overnight at Lukla.

On your final day in the Khumbu region, you can wake up to enjoy the sunrise over the mountains and later have an authentic local breakfast. Pack Up your belongings, bid farewell to the Everest Base Camp Trek, and take a flight to Kathmandu. Observe fleeting views of the scenic snow-capped mountains. Upon landing at the airport's in Kathmandu, you are transferred to the hotel. Enjoy the afternoon with some souvenir shopping or relish continental cuisine. For Your Information, International flights and Nepal “Entry Visa Fee” aren’t included. Rooms are usually shared by two people unless you request a private room. You can upgrade to better hotels in the mountain and even in the cities. For your customized services, please specify during the booking process or contact us.
Meals
During your trek, you can enjoy authentic Nepalese food as well the more common international cuisine (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Indian, etc.). Breakfast and dinner will be served from the teahouse or from a lodge menu where we spend the night whereas lunch will be served on the way to the next destination. All meals will be provided during trekking while breakfast will be available in Kathmandu. There will also be welcome and farewell dinners for guests.
Accommodation
You will be staying in Hotel Vajra in Kathmandu and teahouse/lodges during the trek. All accommodations are on twin-shared basis. Single supplement will be served on request and will cost an additional USD 380. AlpineTrav Treks will arrange rooms with attached washrooms; however, teahouses in some places only have shared washing and toilet facilities. Also note that single rooms are readily available in Kathmandu and the trekking regions at lower elevation but it might be difficult to find them at higher elevations. However, AlpineTrav Treks tries its best to provide single rooms in all places as much as possible.

Team Composition
This trek will have a guide and assistant guide (4 trekkers: 1 assistant guide) and porters to carry the luggage (2 trekkers: 1 porter). This arrangement ensures that if someone in the group becomes ill or is unable to continue, the trek can continue as planned for the rest of the group. We have been operating treks for any size group, but a maximum of twelve people is usually ideal.

The best time to trek Jiri, Bhandar to Everest Base Camp is the months of spring (March-May) and fall (October- November) when the weather is favorable and perfect for high altitude climbing. The Jiri Bhandar to Everest Base Camp trek is a lodge-to-lodge trek. You will sleep in teahouses or lodges rather than tents. No, there is no age limit for Jiri, Bhandar to Everest Base Camp trekking but, you need to be in good physical shape and have a positive attitude. We also suggest you to prior to the excursion though we suggest you to please see your doctor and obtain necessary permission and advice, as well as medications for traveling in extreme altitude prior to the excursion.
Any adventures in the mountains are never entirely safe. When it comes to trekking to Jiri, Bhandar to Everest Base Camp, the most known danger is altitude sickness. Other than that, the occurrence of earthquakes and landslides are incredibly rare and aren’t much threat to trekkers.

Generally, Everest Base Camp trek is referred to as the one located in Nepal, Asia.
