September to November and March to May are best season for Jomsom Muktinath trek. The path becomes colorful with array of blooming rhododendrons in Spring season (March to April). The path is moderately strenuous and since there is sharp increase in altitude, there should be concern for Altitude Sickness. Day 01 :

Arrive in Kathmandu Airport and Transfer to Hotel

Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, Nepal. After completing visa formalities and collecting your luggage at the airport, please exit the arrival hall. Your tour leader will be waiting for you just outside the arrival hall and will take you to hotel in Kathmandu. Please look for a placard with your name on it at the exit of the arrival hall. Then depending on the time, you will have time to walk around the hotel and familiarize yourself near hotel.

Day 02 :

Exploration of Kathmandu & trek orientation

Today is a full-day Kathmandu tour; in which you will explore various UNESCO sites in Kathmandu. We will start our tour with a visit to Pashupatinath, the holiest Hindu temple in Nepal. We will witness the Hindu cremation ceremony at Aryaghat, located on the banks of the Bagmati River. And we will visit Boudhanath, the largest Buddhist stupa in Nepal. We can see the rich Tibetan culture at Boudhanath. Similarly, we will end the day’s tour by visiting Kathmandu Durbar Square, the old royal residence of Nepal.

Day 03 :

Drive Pokhara by tourist bus for 6-7 hours

Our Jomsom Muktinath trek begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara. We will pass through the incredible landscapes of the region to reach the tourist hub of the country. The lake city of Pokhara offers travelers everything they need for a relaxing adventure. It will take approximately 6-7 hours to reach Pokhara. While traveling to Pokhara, you will be able to enjoy the beautiful views of the hilly region on this journey. The magical countryside filled with green hills, terrace farms, fast-flowing rivers and other natural scenery looks magnificent. The silver mountains will also look beautiful in the background. Upon arrival in Pokhara, check in to the hotel and then explore the beautiful city of Pokhara. Various sightseeing spots around the city will provide you with an exciting adventure.

Day 04 :

Fly to Jomsom from Pokhara and Trek to Kagbeni

Breakfast in Pokhara and after breakfast, you will continue the scenic mountain flight to Kagbeni. This excellent tour takes only about 30 minutes to reach the destination of Jomsom. Also known as the windiest place in the country, Jomsom is a beautiful settlement. Upon arrival in Jomsom, you will continue journey through various stunning landscapes. You will cross the Kali Gandaki, and walk through villages. Kagbeni village is located on the banks of the Kali Gandaki and Nilgiri rivers. The strong winds in this area will make the trek challenging, but you will get a great view of the area. Kagbeni is one of the important points of the Trans Himalayan Salt Trade Route that existed hundreds of years ago. And there we will stay night.

Day 05 :

Trek to Muktinath from Kagbeni

After a sumptuous and delicious breakfast at the lodge in Kagbeni, you will start the trek to Muktinath. The trek climbs up the valley and then reaches the high desert. Muktinath Temple is also known as the Temple of Salvation. Many pilgrims from both Hindu and Buddhist communities visit the temple to offer prayers. The temple complex also includes various small temples, 108 water taps and a small pond. It is widely believed that the water from the taps and pond washes away the sins of past lives. Therefore, Muktinath Temple is an important religious heritage site in the country. There is also a naturally burning eternal fire in the complex. We will offer our prayers and then explore the surroundings before resting at the lodge in the area.

Day 06 :

Exploration of Muktinath and surrounding areas

Muktinath is one of the major pilgrimage sites for Hindus and Buddhists. The 108 water taps and the Vishnu temple in the Muktinath temple complex are the main attractions. A Buddhist gompa is located near the Vishnu temple. The eternal flame of fire can also be seen in the Jwala Mai temple. So, you will explore the nearby monasteries and temples and spend the night in Muktinath.

Day 07 :

Trek to Marpha from Muktinath

Our trek continues 1,200 meters down the valley of the Kaligandaki River, stopping briefly at Ekle Bhatti, which means ‘lonely tea house’. It is now a small hamlet with 3-4 tea houses. From here, the valley gets very windy during the afternoon as we can hear the wind in our ears, the trek follows a gentle path for another two hours until we reach the larger town of Jomsom. Jomsom, a small hill town and headquarters of the Mustang region with a small airstrip, is just above the Kaligandaki River. Another two hours of easy hiking southeast from Jomsom brings us to Marpha for the night, a little gem with whitewashed houses, paved roads and numerous well-maintained lodges.

Day 08 :

Trek to Lete (Kalopani), from Marpha

From Marfa, you will walk past whitewashed houses and fields of crops and reach the banks of the Kaligandaki River. Walking along the banks of the Kaligandaki River, you will reach Tukche, a culturally rich village of the Thakali people. You will visit a local gompa and continue along the western bank of the Kaligandaki to Larjung. You will walk through narrow lanes and tunnels that will take you into the forest area. Passing through pine and juniper forests, you will reach Kalpani from where you can enjoy panoramic views of the Annapurna I mountain range. A half-hour walk from Kalpani will take you to Lete where you will spend the night.

Day 09 :

Trek to Tatopani from Lete (Kalopani)

Leave Lete early in the morning, as today you will descend through the forest to Ghasa, the last Thakali village and the last southern village to practice Tibetan Buddhism. Walking through a narrow gorge after Ghasa, you will reach Rupse village where you can see a waterfall. From Rupse, you will reach Dana, a Magar village. Where Dana will welcome you with a close view of Annapurna South. From there, you will descend to Tatopani, where you can bathe in the natural hot springs. And spend the night in Tatopani.

Day 10 :

Trek from Tatopani to Ghorepani

On this day, you will start trek from the natural hot spring to Ghorepani. Ghorepani is a beautiful Gurung village settlement. The trek is relatively easy as you trek through these areas to Ghorepani. The incredible views of the snow-capped mountains along the way will captivate all the travelers who undertake this trek. This will help you stay excited and motivated on the trek. They will provide you with the best time while trekking on these treks. The course will then take you across the Kali Gandaki through green fields and village settlements against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains. From there, you will trek through beautiful settlements to reach Ghorepani village, where you will rest with local accommodation at the lodges of Ghorepani.

Day 11 :

Early morning hike up to Poonhill and trek to Tadapani

Early in the morning, you will leave the hotel for Poonhill and head towards Poonhill. This is the best hill station in Pokhara for sunrise views. You will reach Poonhill early in the morning so that you do not miss the sunrise view over Annapurna from Poonhill. Along with the sunrise view, Poonhill offers close-up views of more than 10 mountains. You will then descend from Poonhill to the hotel for breakfast and trek through the forest area to Tadapani where you will spend the night in Tadapani.

Day 12 :

Trek to Nayapul and drive to Pokhara

From Tadapani, you will trek for about 3 hours through the forest area to reach the large Gurung village of Ghandruk. You will then follow the path descending through Khimche and climb the stone steps to reach Syauli Bazaar. From Syauli Bazaar, you will proceed to Birethanti. From Birethanti, you will proceed to Nayapul, from where you will drive to Pokhara.

Day 13 :

Drive back to Kathmandu from Pokhara

After breakfast, your journey will be to Kathmandu. Grab the seats on the left side of the vehicle for the best views of the rivers on the highway, as this is likely the last time you will see them again. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to hotel; and spend the rest of the day at your leisure, perhaps doing some last-minute shopping.

Day 14 :

International Departure

After breakfast and on our last day in Kathmandu, our vehicle and escorts will be ready to take you to the international airport three hours before your scheduled flight. It has been a great honor to meet you in the glorious Himalayas, and we pray for your safe journey home. We will remember the wonderful times we spent together. Have a nice trip!!! ACCOMMODATION

We will stay in Kathmandu at Hotel Vajra and Pokhara Hotel Mount View or similar category, which is a standard tea house/lodge during the trek, and this is all included in the cost of the trip. However; during the trek, your accommodation will be in simple teahouses/lodges with basic and shared facilities.

Most teahouses/lodges in the Annapurna region have squat toilets: most bathrooms are usually shared but we will arrange for you and your group to stay in local lodges on a daily basis. Please note that some of them are very basic and a sense of adventure is required.

In Kathmandu and Pokhara, your accommodation will be on a twin-shared basis and if you wish to have a single room, upon request you will need to pay a single supplement as mentioned in the trip cost. However, please note that there are less teahouses along the trekking route that do not allow single room accommodation. Paying a supplement guarantees a room in Kathmandu and Pokhara, but this may not always be possible in trekking areas. It’s generally impossible to arrange private rooms. This is the case even if you’re willing to pay extra since the teahouses owners will not give out a private room if it means someone else goes without a room.

MEALS ON THE TREK

During the trek, we will serve typical Nepali food, various ethnic dishes as well as all kinds of international dishes (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, and so on, Indian cuisine) from pizza and chips to apple pie. And breakfast includes bread, eggs, pancakes, muesli, granola, konflux, porridge as well as tea, coffee and hot milk with fresh fruits. Similarly, hot lunch will be served on the way to our next destination. Upon reaching the destination, meals and breakfast will be served at the teahouse/lodge where we will spend the night. However, in Kathmandu, we will only provide breakfast. Because you can taste the food you like, as there are high-quality delicious foods from different countries available. Therefore, you will have to arrange your own lunch and dinner during your stay in Kathmandu and Pokhara.

DRINKING WATER

We provide boiled water for drinking purposes in all our teahouses/lodges or camping treks. We strictly discourage the use of single-use plastic bottles such as mineral water on all our treks. Therefore, it is highly recommended to carry a hot water bottle. And you can ask your staff to fill the bottle with water.

How difficult is the Jomsom Muktinath Trek?

Duration for treks of this grade stretches up to two (2) weeks. Trails generally go above 4000 meters and on a daily basis, you can expect to be walking for about 5 – 7 hours, and involves occasional difficult days. Expect ups and downs as well for there will be hills to climb as well.

What is the best time to trek to Jomsom Muktinath?

The best time to trek to Jomsom Muktinath Trek is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (October to November) months when the weather is favorable and suitable for climbing at high altitudes. These seasons offer crystal-clear mountain views with clear skies. The trek can also be done in February and early September but the trek is best done during the above months.

What type of Accommodation during the trekking?

Nepal has a wide range of accommodation facilities from international standard star hotels to budget hotels and lodges. Accommodation facilities are available in the major trekking areas in the hilly areas. During the trek it is possible to stay in Guesthouse/Lodge facilities. Guesthouse/Lodge has hot and cold water facility. Most of the guest Guesthouse/Lodge has private rooms available. Most of the bathrooms are shared. Many years of experience in the trekking sector of organizing various treks in Nepal assures you that we have chosen the cleanest and most hygienically maintained Teahouse/Lodge for our treks where there is a friendly atmosphere and great views. In modern treks on high passes we use basic tea houses. If clients require tented camping trekking, this is conducted. The camping trek is fully organized and supported, with a team of guides, cooks, Sherpas and porters accompanying you. Our porters carry all trekking gear, food, fuel and personal belongings. Our cooks prepare hot meals. Trekkers only need to carry a small bag as per their requirement for the day. At night, tents, mattresses and down-filled sleeping bags, tables and seating areas are provided and set up for eating, sleeping and showering.

Where do we eat our meals and what kind of food is available?

During the Teahouse Trekking you will have breakfast and dinner at the teahouse/lodge, lunch at one of the trail side restaurants. Each teahouse serves traditional Nepali food Dal Bhat Curry (rice, vegetable and lentil soup and more). All our teahouses have a variety of food items such as rice, vegetables, noodles, potatoes and soup. Many of them have western food on their menu. Soft drinks are also available at most teahouses and trail side restaurants. Food safety is always a big concern and we take it very seriously. That is why we choose the cleanest and most hygienically maintained hotels for our routes.

What is the source of drinking water supply during the trek?

All teahouses have boiled water for trekkers. And it is possible to drinking mineral water on the main trekking routes. We recommend your clients not to use mineral water, it is not environmentally friendly. You can use iodine tablets or other purification drops. It is worth noting that we provide boiled water to our clients during camping or Homestay trekking. The guide will ensure that the water is safe for drinking.

What kind of experience do the trekking guides/staff have?

The leaders/guides have many years of guiding experience in Nepal, India, Bhutan and Tibet. Most of them have been exploring the country for years. Our guides are trained in first aid and know how to handle any situation. All our guides speak fluent English and are happy to share their in-depth knowledge of the culture, geography, flora, festivals, lifestyle with you. We believe and follow the idea that it is not enough to take visitors to special places or special cultures, we need to provide guides who can engage people in what they are experiencing, explain it well and entertain them. What type of transportation is used?

Our transportation department provides air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned large, mini coaches, jeeps, cars for group and individual needs. The drivers and accompanying guides are polite, well-mannered, highly experienced and trained. All are well acquainted with the local areas and communicate in English and other foreign languages.

What happens in case of Emergency?

The company “AlpineTrav Treks & Expeditions” is prepared for any emergency situation and knows how to handle it. Our guides are trained in first aid and can deal with most basic ailments that may occur during trekking and can contact the office in Kathmandu directly every day if possible. Every client should have their own insurance before coming to Nepal in case of emergency. All our employees are insured in case of emergency. Therefore, We also strongly recommend that you take out trip cancellation, air ambulance / helicopter rescue insurance. You should be aware that some policies do not include, or restrict, cover for this type of travel. How do we communicate in an emergency?

Landline and mobile phone services are available in Nepal. The network covers most of Nepal except for some rural mountainous locations. Nepal Telecom is the national service provider. There are also private service providers such as hotels and private communication centers that also provide long-distance telephone, internet and fax facilities.

Do I need a Trekking Permit?

Yes, A Trekking Information Management System (TIMS) is required to trek in all areas. You will need a National Park/Conservation Entry Permit. There are ten National Parks and three Wildlife Sanctuaries in Nepal. Langtang National Park, Makalu-Barun National Park, Shivpuri-Nagarjun National Park, Banke National Park, Sagarmatha National Park, Chitwan National Park, She-Phoksundo National Park, Rara National Park and one hunting reserve which includes Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve, Parsa Wildlife Reserve, Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reserve, Dorpatan Hunting Reserve. We have 5 conservation areas namely Api Nampa Conservation Area, Annapurna Conservation Area, Gaurishankar Conservation Area, Kanchenjunga Conservation Area, Manaslu Conservation Area. Some restricted areas like Manaslu Trek, Upper and Lower Dolpa Trek, Kanchenjunga Range Trek, Mustang Trek, Mugu Trek, Darcula, Nar and Phu Village Trek, Tsum Valley Trek require a special trekking permit issued by Immigration through a trekking agency.
