Major attraction of Kailash Mansarovar Mountain

Kailash Parikrama means circumambulation of Mount Kailash. This is one of the most daring and breath-taking parts of the pilgrimage. Mount Kailash is considered to be worshiped by Lord Shiva and Parvati. The circumambulation is believed to bring reverence to the Lord and fulfill the pious wishes of the pilgrims. It takes about three days to complete the 32-mile Kora (meaning clockwise rotation in Tibetan). Kora is an exciting experience of a lifetime. Various faces of Kailash mountain, rugged terrain, thin air, rotation are all fascinating features of Kora. The landscape through Kora is a perfect decoration of nature that evokes a sense of ecstasy in everyone, with a desire to be absorbed in the highest joys of life.

How to reach Mount Kailash Mansarovar?

You can travel from Kathmandu or Lhasa where flights are available to Kathmandu/China Lhasa and then drive to the Great Tibetan Plateau.

If you choose the overland route from Kathmandu, you can reach Darchen, a small town at the foot of Mount Kailash, in 3 days at 4,600 meters. Or Darchen can be reached in 3 days by road from Lhasa.

When is the best time to visit Mount Kailash?

Generally, May and early June are good times for Kora on Mount Kailash. The rainy season starts in early July and becomes muddy in July and August. The Saga Dava festival is celebrated on April 14 of the Tibetan calendar to commemorate Shakyamuni’s birth, enlightenment and death. At the entrance of the holy mountain Kailash, there is a program of worship by the local people by changing the flag. Buddhists believe that when Kora begins on that day, virtue and virtue are greater than usual.

What about nearby facilities?

The mountain is located in a particularly remote and remote area of western Tibet. Despite its minimal infrastructure, modest guesthouses are available for foreign pilgrims, while Tibetan pilgrims usually sleep in their own tents.
