Kathmandu World Heritage Sites Tour Overview
Our one-day cultural tour in Kathmandu gives you a close-up glimpse of Nepal. It not only showcases the rich culture of the Nepali people but also takes you back in time through its architectural marvels. The tour takes you to four places: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, Boudhanath and Swayambhunath temples that hold religious and cultural significance for the Nepali people.
After your breakfast in the morning, you will start your tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites within the Kathmandu district. These sites include Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, Swayambhunath and Boudhanath. Kathmandu Durbar Square showcases Nepali art and architecture at its best. The architecture is typical of the Malla Dynasty that ruled Nepal from the 12th to the 18th centuries.
Similarly; Swayambhunath Temple has an attractive mix of both Hindu and Buddhist temples and stupas. It is popular among foreigners as the Monkey Temple due to the large monkey population living in the area. Similarly, Boudhanath Stupa is one of the largest stupas in South Asia, built on the ancient trade route to Tibet. Alongside the main stupa, built in the Nepali Buddhist style, there are over fifty Tibetan monasteries dotted around the area, built by Tibetan traders and the large influx of Tibetan refugees over the years. Here, you can appreciate the magnificent art and architecture of not only ancient Nepal but also neighboring Tibet.
The Pashupatinath Temple is located on the banks of the Bagmati River and is one of the main temples of Lord Shiva. The temple area is dotted with other smaller temples of numerous Hindu deities, giving the entire place a sacred heavenly atmosphere.
