Ladakh - Rumtse To Tso Moriri Trek
The area is also home to the pashmina goats and yaks of the Changthang nomads and is an exceptional trek, so the Rumtse to Tso Moriri trek is considered challenging due to the high altitude. The trail is relatively easy following good trail and mule trail but due to the increasing altitude, it is challenging. So be prepared to walk for an average of 6-8 hours every day with your bag, which will contain your valuables, packed lunch, water, extra wool, snacks etc. Some famous mountain base camp are located where there are you will long trek up to 5500m altitude, and you need to sleep at altitude above 4500m for the night. No previous trekking experience is required but you must be moderately fit and adaptable to walking and high altitude conditions.

DETAILED ITINERARY
Arrive at Leh airport and check in to the hotel we have booked for you. You are advised to take complete rest throughout the day to acclimatize yourself to the new environment at an altitude of 11,135 feet. In the evening we will make our visit to Shanti Stupa (World Peace Pagoda). It is one of the major attractions in Leh which is built to encourage world peace and prosperity as well as commemorate 2500 years of Buddhism. This holy site, perched on a mountain, provides a panoramic view of the city and its surroundings, making it a must-see.

Your second day in Ladakh will be spent in Leh, where you will continue your acclimatization, i.e. on this day, your exploration will take place at the Leh Palace, built in the 17th century. Leh Palace was the residence of the royal family which is now converted into a museum from where you can get information about the Ladakhi royal history. The palace is located on a hilltop and offers a magnificent bird's eye view of the city, during the day, we will take a walk around the palace.

We have included Thiksey Monastery and She Gompa in our sightseeing itinerary day-3 in Leh. So we will early morning visit Thiksey Monastery as soon as possible to listen to the morning prayer chanting. The experience will be truly magnificent. After the morning prayer session, we will wander around the site and explore its art, architecture and history. The views are certainly breathtaking and the architecture is amazing but it is also a great place to learn about Buddhism and culture. After spending plenty of time at the beautiful Thiksey Monastery, we will head back, passing by the Druk Padma Karpo School and Rancho School and stopping at She Gompa. She Monastery is famous for its huge copper and gilded statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, which is claimed to be the second largest statue in Ladakh and a must-see. The gompa is located on a hilltop and offers breathtaking panoramic views.

ACCOMMODATION
During our trip, we will stay in accommodation in Leh (Hotel Omasila or similar category). And during the trek, we will stay in tents. All these are included in the cost of the trip. For staying in the tent, a foam mattress with a pillow will be provided. And there will be natural security as well as toilet facilities. However, your tent camping and city accommodation will be on a twin-sharing basis, if you are in a single situation, we will also arrange a tent for you.
MEALS
We will provide three meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner) during the trek. Since this is a full camping trek, our kitchen team will provide freshly prepared meals during the trek. We consider hearty and delicious meals as a key component of the overall success of our trip. However, in Leh we will only provide breakfast, as meals in Leh are not included in the package. Therefore; we recommend you to budget for lunch and dinner in Leh. If you wish, that is also possible. Please let us know. We will also have the option of all-inclusive at an additional cost.
DRINKING WATER
We provide boiled water for drinking purposes on all our camping treks. Therefore, it is highly recommended to bring 2 to 3 hot water bottles. Because drinking up to 3 liters of water per day while trekking will be very good for health.
NOTICE:
Satellite phones are prohibited in Leh-Ladakh, India due to security concerns related to proximity to sensitive international borders. Only authorized personnel like government officials and military can use them after taking special permission from the Department of Telecommunications. So do not use it without permission.
INFO RELATED TO THIS TRIP
Rumtse To Tso Moriri Trek is considered challenging due to high altitudes and longer duration trek. The trail is relatively easier following good paths but due to the increasing altitude, it’s graded challenging. Please be prepared to walk for 6 to 8 hrs every day on average carrying your backpack, which will consist of your valuable items, water, extra fleece, snacks etc. Longer treks reaching up to an elevation of 5400m.
The best time to trek to Rumtse To Tso Moriri are (late June to September). It is a moderate to challenging trek with many stream crossings, steep climbs, and descents from high passes and a long day trek. Therefore; Winter seasons are not recommended for Rumtse To Tso Moriri Trek.
A valid passport and tourist visa are required to visit India. The passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into India. To get a India visa, you will need the following documents:
- Two recent passport-sized photographs with a light (white) background.
- Cash (USD) depending on the number of days you plan to stay in India.
- A passport valid for at least six months.
Yes, it is required. Due to its proximity to the China/Tibet border, a permit known as an Inner-Line Permit (ILP) or Restricted Area Permit (RAP) is required to enter every part of Ladakh. This permit can be obtained in Leh. Which should be booked through a local company in Leh.
It’s mandatory and highly recommended to get travel insurance before embarking on any adventurous trips. We advise all our clients to get travel insurance that covers up emergency helicopter evacuation that may be needed in case of the occurrence of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) or any other reasons in high altitudes where there are no other means of transportation available.
