Helambu Trek is a short pleasant trek in the Langtang region of Nepal. It is an ideal choice for those who wish to do a low-altitude trek in a brief time. Not only that, the Helambu trekking route is far less crowded than the Everest and Annapurna treks. Helambu it lies northeast of Kathmandu valley. Despite being close to the capital, the nature and culture in the region are well-preserved and untouched by modernity. The tranquil route, incredible mountain views, friendly people, and fantastic weather are the main attractions of the Helambu Trek. Like, The alluring Helambu trail also links with the popular Langtang Gosaikunda trail. This one-week trek is an excellent combination of the spectacular view of the Langtang Himalayan range and the unique Hyolmo culture. During the walk, you’ll come across some notable Sherpa and Tamang settlements like Chisapani, Trakeghyang, Sermanthang, Melamchi Gauon, etc., of the Helambu region.

The trekking journey commences from Sundarijal, an hours’ drive from Kathmandu. After walking for about an hour, you enter Shivapuri National Park. Surrounded by the lush green hills offers picturesque terrain which is revitalizing and blissful. The trail continues to Chisapani, one of the best viewpoints of the trip. You’ll enjoy the utterly beautiful sight of snow-capped peaks, including Langtang Lirung, Ganesh Himal, Rolwaling, Jugal Himal, Dorje Lakpa, and Gauri Shankar. Further, the fascinating Helambu path comprises Langtang National Park, so you’ll get a great chance to encounter some rare birds and animals.

This region is home to Red Pandas, Himalayan Thar, Ghoral, Rhesus Monkey, Himalayan Black Bear, and Langur. On the way, you’ll visit many ancient Buddhist monasteries, gompas, chortens, and mani walls offering spiritual ambiance. I.e., Leaving Chisapani, continue the trek to Thadepati (3,650m), the trek’s highest point. The route encompasses cascading waterfalls, dense forest of bamboo and rhododendron, and terraced rice fields. The trail also goes through several Sherpa settlements, such as Gul Bhanjyang and Kutumsang. Afterward, enjoying the incredible Himalayan scenery from Thadepati descends to Melamchi Gaun. Here you’ll cross the Melamchi Khola and get to Tarkeghyang, another Sherpa settlement. This village is well-known as Helambu as most of the people here belong to the Helambu caste. Next, you’ll trek to Sermathang, another picturesque village through Ghangyul and Chumik. Lastly, head towards Melamchi Pul Bazaar and drive to Kathmandu. Overall, the tranquil trails of the Helambu route offer some of the most unexplored exquisiteness of nature.

Day 1: Arrive at Kathmandu (1,350m) and transfer to Hotel
Day 2: Drive to Sundarijal from Kathmandu and trek to Chisapani (2,300m).
Day 3: Trek to Kutumsang (2,446m), from Chisapani 5-6 hours
Day 4: Trek to Thadepati (3,650m) from Kutumsang 5-6 hours
Day 5: Trek to Tarkegang (2,560m) from Thadepati 5-6 hours
Day 6: Trek to Sermathang (2,610m), from Tarkegang 5-6 hours
Day 7: Trek to Melamchi from Sermathang and drive to Kathmandu
Day 8: Drop at the airport for the final departure
