Located 72 km northeast of Kathmandu, Helambu is closest trekking area from the capital, stretching from Tsarang to Gosaikunda Lake and the lower slopes of the Jugal Himal. Our trek that offers unique experience of witnessing the ancient culture of the Hyolmo tribe influenced by the culture of Himalayan region. As Helambu is in less busy area, this area is incomplete. The Langtang Helambu trekking route continues through rhododendron and bamboo forests that shelter wild birds and many rare species of mammals such as red pandas, musk deer and rhesus monkeys. While trekking in Helambu valley, one can see view of mountains and mountains like Langtang Lirung Himal, Ganesh Himal, Yala Peak, Annapurna Himalaya and other mountains. There are glaciers, green meadows and high passes.

Although close to the capital, the Langtang Helambu trek is less crowded, passing through remote villages of the Sherpa and Tamang ethnic groups, where the locals still practice culture and traditions in their original form. Helambu is one of the areas untouched by modernity. The trek to Helambu starts from Sundarijal and proceeds to lower altitudes with maximum altitude at Thadepati (3650m). Autumn (September to December) and spring (March to May) are best seasons for Helambu trekking. During this period, the weather will be clear and you can see the panoramic view of the mountains.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu Airport [1,350m/4,455ft] and transfer to hotel.
Day 2: Drive to Sundarijal and trek to Chisapani [2,300m/7,546ft], 4-5 hours
Day 3: Trek from Chisapani to Kutumsang [2,446m/8,025ft], 5-6 hours
Day 4: Trek from Kutumsang to Thadepati [3,650m/11,976ft], 5-6 hours
Day 5: Trek from Thadepati to Tarkegang [2,560m/8,399ft], 5-6 hours
Day 6: Trek from Tarkegang to Sermathang [2,610 m/8,563ft], 5-6 hours
Day 7: Trek from Sermathang to Melamchi Bazaar and drive to Kathmandu around 7 hours

  • Personal clothing and trekking gear.
  • Travel insurance has to cover emergency high-altitude rescue and evacuation along with medical coverage.
  • Tips, gifts, souvenirs for involved trekking staff.
  • Additional costs due to delays caused by circumstances outside company control like landslides, weather conditions, itinerary modifications due to safety concerns, illness, change of government policies, strikes, etc.
