Tilman Pass Trek One of the highest and most difficult passes in the Langtang region

The Tilman Pass trek is classified as a moderate to strenuous grade trek. This trek is a pioneering high altitude trek located in the Upper Langtang region near the border of Tibet and Nepal at an altitude of 5,350 meters. This trek is one of the best desert routes in Nepal for trekking in the remote and wild parts of the Himalayas. It offers a panoramic mountain view of Himalayan pine forests including Langtang and Lirung, Langtang Himal, Naya Khanga, Yala Peak, Ganesh Himal, Langshisa, Gaurishankar, Dorje Lakpa.

This area is rich in flora and fauna. Like: rhododendron flower, pheasant, bear, leopard, jackal, monkey, wild beak, wild boar, peacock etc. Similarly, it is home to blue sheep and red panda also.

Similarly, the Tilman Pass Trek in the Langtang region provides an opportunity for various mountain views and lifestyles of the highland rural people who share their culture, style, religion with the guests from far and wide. This Tilaman Pass trek is also known as the Jugal Himal Trek or Panch Pokhari Trek– a set of five small lakes – surrounded by a huge stone-strewn amphitheater, where we pass by a small temple of Vishnu, a Hindu shrine. It is a non-tourist trekking trail that is ideal for trekkers who want to enjoy nature in a quiet way in a remote area.

The journey starts with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi which is one of the popular trekking trails of Langtang region and finally passes the trail with a view of Langtang Himal 5160 meters. This trek passes through the Langtang Valley and the lush green gorge of the Langtang River through the Kyanjin Gompa trek with panoramic views of the Langtang Lirung Genjempol, Ganjala and Naya Khanga mountains. A cheese factory and a 400-year-old Buddhist monastery are other attractions on the trek. Tamang and Sherpa have long practiced religious culture, language, dress and lifestyle as Tibetan people giving you a cultural and ethnic glimpse. Rhododendrons mingle with the moss-draped pine trees and you’ll come across the occasional bird grazing on the way home. Keep an eye out for blue poppy flowers, a family of playful langur monkeys and Nepal’s national bird, the impayan pheasant. Continuing your trek, you will pass through Langshisa Kharka, Moraine Camp and finally Tilman Pass to Tilman Base Camp. The pass is blocked by snow, so it would be best to inquire with the locals about its condition.

Likewise, good equipment and mountaineering experience are essential to pass safely. Crossing the pass is quite technical and requires mountain equipment such as ropes and crampons. And rewarding your efforts the views from the pass are spectacular and you can see directly into Tibet. A waterfall from the pass takes you from giant glaciers to a very different world of alpine meadows and cheese factories. Finally, descending from Tilman Pass we reach Panchpokhri, another attraction of this trek. We add sightseeing day at Panch Pokhari and then reach Chautara via Nasem Pati, Bhanjyang, Pauwabas, Kharka, Okhreni. Then we will return to Kathmandu.
