Lhasa Kathmandu Overland tour is one of the most preferred tours where one can explore two different cultures at the same time. In the incredible city of Lhasa, we get to visit the famous Potala and Norbulingka palaces and the great Drepung and Sera Monasteries with Jokhang Temple. We will also walk amongst the crowded Tibetan market – the bustling Barkhor Bazaar. And, driving through the beautiful Turquoise Lake on the way to the historic town of Gyantse we will see the unique multi-storied Kumbum Stupa.

The Lhasa to Kathmandu Overland Tour also allows us to explore the serene Yamdrok Tso Lake and conquer a few high passes. After visiting the Tashilhunpo monastery in Shigatse; we start our drive to the Himalayas through the Friendship Highway that connects Kathmandu with Lhasa. En route, we pass through many high Himalayan passes. Meeting the real people of Tibet enjoying the unique landscapes and stunning views of Everest, Shisapangma, Makalu, Cho Oyu, and the Tibetan Himalayan range, and then cross the Nepal Tibet border and drive to Kathmandu where we will celebrate our wonderful journey with farewell dinner along with a live culture show will be a trip of a lifetime!

Day 1
Fly to Lhasa from Kathmandu and Explore

Upon your arrival at Gonggar airport, one of our Tibetan guides will come to greet you, and with an easy one-hour or half-hour drive will take you to your final destination. And check in to the hotel and rest.

Day 2
Whole day Sightseeing in Lhasa

After breakfast, we start the first day of our tour doing an amazing sightseeing tour of ancient Lhasa. First of all, we will visit Jokhang Temple; it is the most revered shrine in the Tibetan world. No doubt, it is constantly bustling with religious worshippers. After lunch, we will visit Sera Monastery which is located just a few miles North of Lhasa city. It is a beautifully preserved Monastery where we can see many pictures of Tibet and the buildings with whitewashed walls and golden roofs. By the evening. At hotel.

Day 3
Sightseeing at Lhasa (Potala Palace)

Breakfast will be served from the hotel’s restaurant; we will first have a glimpse of the tremendous Potala Palace performing out from the rest of the city by perching on the red hill. To explore the ancient quarters of the Dalai Lama we will visit Potala Palace in the morning. This palace is regarded as one of the most significantly beautiful palaces in the world. After lunch, we will visit Drepung Monastery which was once home to over 10,000 monks. Drepung Monastery is still a beautiful sight to visit. Day 4
Drive from Lhasa to Gyantse

Another amazing day begins with our overland journey towards Gyantse. We follow the Friendship Highway by jeep and cross Khamba La at an elevation of (4,794m) from where we can see the stunning views across the waters of Yamdrok-Tso Lake to the snowy summit of Nazin Kang-Sa (7,252m). As we head toward the west over another high pass the Karo La (5045m), we can view the spectacular sight of a huge glacier tumbling down to within a few hundred meters of the road. We will explore tranquil Yamdruk Tso then we will arrive at Gyantse passing the beautiful valleys and colorful Tibetan villages after a few hours of drive. at the guesthouse.

Day 5
Drive from Gyantse to Shigatse

Today will be an exciting day as we will visit the fort of Gyantse Dzong. This fort dates back to the 14th century and offers some of the most amazing views of Gyantse and surrounding valleys. Before leaving for Shigatse we will also visit the famous Gyantse Kumbum. This magnificent structure is the largest stupa in Tibet. If the exquisite gold dome is not enough, this stupa is packed with Tibetan sculptures and paintings. Thereby, we continue our trip to Shigatse, the second-largest city in Tibet. This city is only 90 km far away from Gyantse Kumbum which takes about an hour and a half drive to Shigatse, a city that provides excellent opportunities for both relaxation and exploration. After exploring the local market we will make a detailed visit to the Tashilhunpo Monastery, which is one of the largest functioning monasteries in Tibet. At a hotel.

Day 6
Drive from Shigatse to Tingri

After breakfast, we start another scenic day driving past the small village of Lhatse and crossing Gyamtso La Pass at (5,520m). As the route opens into plains, many villages, and camps of nomadic herders become visible en route to Tingri. At the guest house.

Day 7
Drive from Tingri to Nyalam then to Kathmandu

Today is the last day of your adventure overland tour. You will drive past Tingri crossing, Lalung La passes at 5125m and Shug La passes at 5200m. Breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks of Cho Oyu, Gauri Shankar, Mt. Everest, and Shishapangma will greet you while descending from the barren Plateau to the green, small border town of Zhangmu and then continue to Kathmandu crossing the Friendship bridge of Tibet and Nepal.

Day 8
Leisure day in Kathmandu, overnight at a hotel

Around the Kathmandu Valley, you can visit a few places of your choice or relax for a day before leaving Kathmandu.

Day 9
International departure

After Lhasa Kathmandu overland tour today, our airport. Representative will drop you at the airport, and then you will depart from Nepal (Safe Journey!! We hope to see you again).

Transportation

Lhasa, Tibet is now connected with the railway network with mainland China. From any part of mainland China, you can take the amazing train journey to Lhasa which takes about two days to reach the capital. Roads and highways in Tibet are pretty much in condition now! Normally we use a 4WD jeep, Van, or minibus to carry tourists and trucks for kitchen logistics and equipment.

Hotel and Accommodations

Now, Lhasa has many five-star hotels; there are so many nice and standard hotels in Lhasa, Gyantse, and Shigatse. We can organize any kind of hotel and guest house as per your requirements. Please be noted that the facilities and services along Friendship highway, especially Zhangmu, Nyalam, Tingri, Saga, and Kailash parts are still very basic.

Meals

Only breakfasts are included in this trip. We are expected to pay for lunches and dinners on our own. Breakfast will be taken in the same place we stay for the night. Similar arrangements can also be made for dinner. Lunch will be taken en route to the next destination(s). We recommend our guest(s) to budget Yuan 60 to Yuan 100(US$10 to US$16) for lunch and dinner in a single day. We will mainly eat Tibetan bread, dal (lentil soup), bhat (rice), tsampa porridge and other simple local foods.

No Booking Fee

For Your Information, International flights aren’t included. Rooms are usually shared by two people unless you request a private room. Also, you can upgrade to better hotels in the mountain and even in the cities. For your customized services, please specify during the booking process.

Equipment Listed

Warm clothes are a must throughout the year in Tibet. The temperature – fluctuates a lot from day to night and with sudden weather changes. Here are basic packing tips for Tibet.

Bring warm clothes in layers
Down Jacket with layers of the fleece jacket, sweater, or pullovers.
Sunglasses and sun cream, water bottle and extra battery and memory card, swiss knife, flashlight.

Warm caps, gloves, and socks
Pair of gloves, warm woolen cap or beanie, two pairs of thermal socks, and three pairs of casual socks.

Thermal under wears wear
Make sure to pack at least two pairs of woolen or cotton underwear sets.

Windproof jacket and trousers
A strong cold wind is common in Tibet.

3 sets of causal outfits will be useful in fine day sightseeing or driving.

Comfortable sneakers or walking shoes and hiking boots are recommended for treks.
Bring one light pair of other shoes and another sturdy sneakers or hiking boots for the purpose of driving, sightseeing, or hiking as per your program.

Backpack, duffle bag, or suitcase
The suitcase is fine for tours around Lhasa and Shigatse. If you are going more remote, duffle bags and backpacks are more practical. Make sure to carry a day pack to have daily essentials handy.

Down Sleeping bag
The guest houses provide blankets throughout the trip. But having your own sleeping bag is more hygienic and reassuring.
