Day 01 :

Arrive in Leh and acclimatization.

Arrive at Leh airport and check into your booked hotel. It is advisable to take complete rest throughout the day to acclimatize yourself to the new environment at an altitude of 11,135 feet. In the evening visit to Shanti Stupa (World Peace Stupa). This is one of the major attractions of Leh, a stupa built to promote world peace and prosperity as well as commemorate 2500 years of Buddhism. Situated on a hill, this sacred site offers a panoramic view of the city and its surroundings.

Day 02 :

Sightseeing around Leh City

Your second day in Ladakh will be spent in Leh, where you will continue your acclimatization, i.e. on this day, your exploration will take place at the Leh Palace, built in the 17th century. Leh Palace was the residence of the royal family which is now converted into a museum from where you can get information about the Ladakh royal history. The palace is located on a hilltop and offers a magnificent bird's eye view of the city, during the day, you will take a walk around the palace.

Day 3 :

Drive to Korzok from Leh

It takes about 6-7 hours to cover the 210 km distance from Leh to Korzok. Upon arrival in Korzok, check-in at your accommodation. Spend time relaxing and adjusting to the high altitude. Rich in Tibetan culture at 4,500 meters above sea level, it boasts ancient monasteries and prayer flags amidst breathtaking Himalayan views. While trekkers can enjoy nearby peaks like Mentok Kangri; which Korzok offers basic accommodation and facilities for adventurous trekkers seeking peace in the high-altitude forests of Ladakh.

Day 4 :

Trek to Korzok Phu from Korzok

Today you will start a short trek from Korzok to Korzok Phu after breakfast, covering a distance of 2 km and reaching Korzok Phu in about 3 hours and then set up camp. Acclimatize to the increased altitude and rest for the rest of the time. Stay overnight.

Day 5 :

Trek to Mentok Kangri Base Camp

After breakfast, embark on an 8 km trek from Korzok Phu to the base camp, which will take about 5 to 6 hours. Once you reach the base camp, set up camp. Then spend the rest of the time preparing for the upcoming activities.

Day 6 :

Acclimatization Day and Pre Climb Training

Today you will stay here to prepare for the climb. Climbing experts will brief you on the dos and don’t for a safe and successful climb. In anticipation of tomorrow, you will explore the magnificent views of the surrounding area. You will get well acclimatized to the Himalayan environment and also learn to use climbing equipment. You will spend the night in here..

Day 7 :

Summit (Mentok Kangri ll) and back to Base Camp

Start your summit attempt early in the morning. So that the wind doesn't affect you too much. Enjoy the breathtaking views as you reach the top. Trek back to the base camp covering a distance of 10 km which takes about 9-10 hours. Rest at the camp.

Day 8 :

Contingency Day

Day 9 :

Base Camp to Korzok

From base camp, return to Korzok, covering a distance of 10 km, taking approximately 6 hours. Upon arrival in Korzok, check-in at your Tsomoriri guesthouse. Spend the night at Korzok resting and reflecting on your climbing experience.

Max- Elevation: 4,500m/14,750ft.
Accommodation: Tsomoriri Guesthouse

Day 10 :

Drive from Korzok to Leh

After breakfast, you will return to Leh from Korzok, the journey to Leh will take you through the amazing landscapes and high-altitude Changthang region, the iconic Tso Moriri Lake, and the unique Korzok Monastery. The 6-7 hour drive is an adventure in itself, crossing diverse terrain and enjoying breathtaking views. You will reach Leh and check in to the hotel, the rest of the time you can explore Leh city.

For Your Information, International flights aren’t included. Rooms are usually shared by two people unless you request a private room. Meals:

Breakfast (only) will be available in Leh, while all meals (breakfast, packed lunch and dinner) will be provided during the trek/climb. You can enjoy freshly cooked, hygienic and nutritious meals prepared by our trained and experienced cooks on a full-board basis during the trek/climb. Authentic Nepali, Tibetan dishes as well as typical international cuisine (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Indian, etc.) will be available. There will also be welcome and farewell dinners in Leh.

Accommodation:

AlpineTrav Treks & Expeditions will provide accommodation for 3 nights at Omasila Hotel in Leh and camping tents for the remaining nights. Foam mattresses will be provided to sleep in the tents. We maintain standard comfort in everything based on applicable conditions such as weather conditions. All hotel and camping accommodation will be on a twin-sharing basis, and if there is a different gender, we will provide you with a single supplement tent at no extra charge. If you prefer a room, you can indicate your preference and a room in Leh can be obtained by paying a single supplement on request.

Experience Required

Ladakh Mentok Kangri Trek/Climb is classified as a difficult climb. You will have to walk uphill/downhill terrain), you will also have to deal with high altitude air with low oxygen. Therefore, previous trek/climb experience, physical fitness and a positive attitude are essential. You will need a very strong physical endurance level. This grade involves the use of peak climbing equipment (harness, crampons, climbing boots, ascenders). We also provide a climbing course at the base camp before the actual climb. However, it would be a good idea to do regular exercise and jogging for a few months before the trek/climb to increase your strength and stability. It is important for participants with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung and blood diseases to consult their doctor before the trek/climb. It is also advised that you inform AlpineTrav Treks about your medical condition before booking the trip.

Acclimatization:

Keeping in mind AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness), we have planned this package with a high level of awareness. Separate days are set aside for acclimatization. Going to high altitudes too quickly can be a serious medical condition that can lead to death. The higher the altitude, the less oxygen there is in the air. Therefore, our body needs a few days to adapt to the low oxygen environment. Before starting the trek, do some activities from your place or participate in any of the 2 or 3 days activities in Leh.

AlpineTrav Treks & Expeditions advises guest(s) with known heart, lung or blood disease to consult their doctor before travelling. Mild headache, fever, loss of appetite or stomach ache are symptoms of AMS. (Altitude Sickness): AlpineTrav Treks & Expeditions’ itineraries are designed to try to prevent AMS as much as possible. However, it is important to remember that some visitors are more vulnerable than others.

Team Composition:

For the trek/climb, there will be mules to carry the luggage, and a local guide, 1 assistant porter guide, climbing Sherpa guide, (4 trekkers: 1 assistant guide), this arrangement ensures that even if someone in the group falls ill or is unable to continue, the trek can continue as planned for the rest of the group. We have been operating treks for groups of any size, but a maximum of twelve people for camping trekking and climbing, would generally be ideal.

When is the best time to climb Mentok Kangri Peak?

How Hard is Mentok Kangri Peak Climbing?

Mentok Kangri is situated above 6000 meters in a remote and secluded area and is considered difficult to climb as it has to stay at an altitude of 5000 meters. That’s why climbers need excellent physical condition. On the day of the summit, you will leave the base camp at 2 am and return to the base camp only in the afternoon. This grade includes the use of climbing equipment (harness, ice axe, crampons, mountaineering boots, climber). Previous experience is required and we also offer a climbing course at base camp before the actual climb where your climbing guide will teach you the proper way to use the equipment.

Do I need travel insurance for Mentok Kangri Peak?

It’s mandatory and highly recommended to get travel insurance before embarking on any adventurous trips. We advise all our clients to get travel insurance that covers up emergency helicopter evacuation that may be needed in case of the occurrence of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) or any other reasons in high altitudes where there are no other means of transportation available. Do I need a permit to climb Mentok Kangri Peak?

Yes, it is required. Due to its proximity to the China/Pakistan border, a permit known as an Inner-Line Permit (ILP) or Restricted Area Permit (RAP) is required to enter every part of Ladakh. This permit can be obtained in Leh. Which should be booked through a local company in Leh. (+Climbing permit also)

Who am I Mentok Peak Climbing With?

You will be guided by experienced and knowledgeable Sherpa climbing leaders who have successfully summited the peak multiple times. Some climbing leaders have climbed Everest at least once or a few times in their climbing career. Your climbing guide will support you from day one, providing important tips and teaching you tricks.
