Mustang Teri La Pass and Nar Phu Valley Trek – 27 Days
Mustang Teri La Pass and Nar Phu Valley Trek is an excellent trekking adventure located in the Mustang and Manang region of Nepal. Where, this trek takes you into the restricted areas of Upper Mustang and Nar Phu Valley, which require special permits. After trekking in Upper Mustang, you will head to Nar Phu Valley, located northeast of the Annapurna Circuit. On the way, you will cross the Teri La Pass, which is at an altitude of 5,577 meters or 18,297 feet.
The trek will reward you with breathtaking views of the Himalayas. You will see unique landscapes with colorful valleys, red rock walls, and distinctive erosion structures that set Mustang apart from other regions. The Upper Mustang and Nar Phu Valley trek is a new trails recently opened to foreigners. Because of its remote location, they have developed a unique culture and traditions. And the descendants of the Tibetans who settled here centuries ago still live in the area.
The complete experience of immersing yourself in ancient Tibetan culture and getting a glimpse into diverse traditional practices will be overwhelming. Additionally, you will trek in remote Nepal and experience both camping and tea house trekking in one trek.
Mustang Teri La Pass and Nar Phu Valley Trek Itinerary
The Mustang Teri La Pass and Nar Phu Valley Trek takes you through a landscape as dry and arid as the Tibetan plateaus. You will trek amidst an almost barren and stunning landscape near the Nepal-Tibet border. Enjoy breathtaking views of high mountains and hills with sparse vegetation. The trek is also culturally rich. You will explore the forbidden kingdom of Lo Manthang, which has long been isolated and has a unique culture and traditions. Furthermore, you will visit the less frequented Nar Phu Valley, untouched by modernization. You will trek past ancient caves, centuries-old monasteries, medieval villages, and breathtaking mountain landscapes that will leave a lasting impression.
The Mustang Teri La Pass and Nar Phu Valley Trek begins with your arrival in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. The next day, you will explore Kathmandu and visit the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Swayambhunath, Pashupatinath and Kathmandu Durbar Square. Similarly, you will take a 6-7 hour drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara, then take another domestic flight from Pokhara to Jomsom. Your trek will start from Jomsom and end with a trek to Dharapani, Mustang Teri La Pass and Nar Phu Valley. Along the way, you will trek through lush forests, waterfalls and streams, crossing suspension bridges.
Furthermore, you will pass through the quaint villages of Kagbeni, Chaile, Geling, and Charang before reaching the walled city of Lo Manthang. This region has remained secluded for a long time, where you can witness well-preserved Tibetan culture and traditions. You will trek past chortens, stupas, prayer wheels, and gem walls, important Tibetan Buddhist elements.
The trek will take you to the Teri La base camp, passing through the villages of Yara, Tangya, Yak Kharka and Samena River. You will spend a day acclimatizing at Samena River. Then, you will continue trekking to Teri La Base Camp and High Camp Teri La. The next day, you will cross the high pass, Teri La Pass, which is also the highest point of the trek. The next trek will take you to Nar village and Phu village, where the daily life of the locals has not changed much. Where you will see the presence of Tibetan Buddhism and visit Gompa and Lhakhang to learn more about the local culture and traditions. Finally, a trek from Meta to Dharapani via Koto will end your trek. Then, you will return to Kathmandu via Besisahar. The next day, you will board an international flight and fly out of Kathmandu with memories of a lifetime.
