The thousands of temples, stupas, pagodas, and monuments within the valley have made Kathmandu famous in the world as the city of temples. The hills surrounding the valley enclose three medieval cities – Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur. Each city within the valley has an artistic display of beautiful temples, elegant palaces, brick courtyards, and quaint streets. Apart from the three cities, there are many other important sites on the periphery of the hills. On this trip, you will visit some of the most important as well as interesting cultural and natural landscapes of the Kathmandu Valley.

This 5-day Nepal Temples and Pagoda Tour is designed to meet the needs of those who want to do a cultural tour of the valley or are on a pilgrimage to Nepal. Day 01 :

Arrival in Kathmandu and overnight

Upon arrival at Kathmandu Airport (TIA), you will be greeted by a representative of AlpineTrav Treks & Expeditions. After completing the necessary formalities (visa, etc.), collect your luggage and meet our representative at the arrival gate. You will then be transferred to the hotel. After checking in, you will be free to relax. In the evening, take a walk around the hotel to familiarize yourself.

Day 02 :

Kathmandu Sightseeing Tour: Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhu, Pashupatinath, Boudhanath

Today after breakfast you will embark on a guided tour of four UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Kathmandu Valley, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath and Boudhanath.

Kathmandu Durbar Square houses the palaces of the medieval kings who ruled the erstwhile Kathmandu Kingdom. "Swayambhu" means "self-sufficient" and is one of the oldest Buddhist stupas in the world. The stupa is also famous for being on top of a hill and is popular among foreigners as the Monkey Temple due to the large number of monkeys that inhabit the area. Along with Pashupatinath, the Aryaghat or cremation ground near the Bagmati River is one of the world's holiest places of worship for Hindus. The Buddhist shrine of Boudhanath is one of the largest stupas in the world, and is one of the holiest Buddhist pilgrimage sites and tourist attractions in Kathmandu.

Day 03 :

Sightseeing: Patan, Khokana, Bungmati, Sunset at Nagarkot

After breakfast today, you will start your tour of some cultural and natural sites. Patan, also known as the “City of Fine Arts”, is full of ancient sites, temples and shrines, which are famous for their exquisite carvings. Khokana village dates back to the medieval era, and the village has been nominated to be listed as a World Heritage Site, with its mustard oil seed industrial heritage. Bungamati is another sleepy medieval village with a beautiful temple in the village square and medieval houses with onions and red chillies hanging from their windows. You will then head to Nagarkot, located 32 km east of Kathmandu at an altitude of 2,175 meters (7,136 feet) above sea level. You will spend the night in Nagarkot to enjoy magnificent sunrise and sunset views of the major peaks of the Eastern Nepal Himalayas, including Mount Everest. Overnight at Nagarkot.

Day 04 :

Sightseeing: Nagarkot Sunrise, Changu Narayan and Bhaktapur

After enjoying the golden sunrise over the Himalayas from Nagarkot and having breakfast, you will head towards Changu Narayan, the oldest pagoda temple in the Kathmandu Valley and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The road to Changu Narayan passes through small villages and farmlands where farmers work their fields. Similarly, the medieval city of Bhaktapur, or the city of devotees, preserves medieval art, architecture, culture and lifestyle to this day. Bhaktapur Durbar Square is one of the best preserved of the three Durbar Squares in the valley. Durbar Square was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. Walking through the squares, squares and streets of Bhaktapur feels like traveling back in time. Spend the night in Kathmandu.

Note: If you want to do a short trek (3-4 hours) from Nagarkot to Changu Narayan, then this can be arranged on this day along with sightseeing in Bhaktapur.

Day 05 :

Transfer to International Airport

The 5-day Nepal Temple and Shiva Temple tour ends today. If you have more time, you can do some shopping or stroll around the streets of your hotel. A representative from AlpineTrav Treks & Expeditions will transfer you to the airport approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight.
