Phoksundo Lake Trek – 12 Days, Overview
The Phoksundo Lake trek is one of the most sacred and untouched treks in Nepal that takes us to the magnificent Phoksundo Lake. On this memorable journey, we will have the opportunity to explore the country’s long-preserved sacred lakes, medieval villages, Buddhist monasteries, high glaciers, hidden valleys, culture and traditions.
Unlike other Far West trek, the Phoksundo Lake trek starts from the Terai town of Nepalgunj via small mountain airstrips and then to Juphal, which is the main starting point of the trek. You will start our trek from Juphal to Dunai along the banks of the Beni River. The Phoksundo trek route traverses through diverse terrain including high river valleys and alpine pastures.
From Dunai village, you will proceed to the village of Chhepa, the entry point of the She Phoksundo National Park. The national park area is home to some exotic rare wild species like red panda, musk deer, blue sheep, snow leopard, Himalayan Thar. On the way, we will enjoy the magnificent views of Dhaulagiri mountain range in the east and Kagmara mountain range in the west.
Furthermore, from Chhepka village, we will trek towards Phoksundo Lake, which is the most beloved, mysterious lake tucked deep in the barren hills of the lower Dolpo Valley. Initially, we will reach Jharna village, where we will witness the magnificent view of the sparkling waterfall. From here, we will continue our trek towards the Tibetan village of Ringmo. Here, we will experience the primitive lifestyle, and there is no other way to explore them than trekking in this area. We can explore the village and interact with the locals. In this village, most of the people are descended from Tibetans. They used to travel here to trade, and their culture, language, and religion still have Tibetan influence.
Furthermore, a peaceful Phoksundo trekking route is a great option for those looking for a secluded trek. From Ringmo village, we will continue our journey on the scenic Phoksundo trekking route, which will take you to the peaceful and quiet She Phoksundo region of Nepal. It is most famous for its stunning natural beauty, captivating mountain views, and rich culture. With its surreal surroundings and awe-inspiring backdrop, we will have a once-in-a-lifetime experience here. We will have ample time to explore the Phoksundo Lake region, and we will also visit the Tshowa Monastery.
After exploring and enjoying the extraordinary snow-capped peaks and Phoksundo Lake views, you will head back via a less-touristy trekking route. Once again, the Phoksundo trekking route takes us deep into the unspoiled and desolate regions of the far western region of Nepal, where we will discover the true beauty of nature and unique culture. From Juphal, we will fly to Nepalgunj, and another flight to Kathmandu will end this short adventure Phoksundo Lake trek.
Phoksundo Lake Trek Itinerary Overview

The Lower Dolpo trek is undoubtedly a hidden treasure and is famous for its remote high mountain valleys. During this magical trek, you will pass through picturesque traditional villages like Dunai, Chhepka, Jharana, Ringmo and Jhupal.
