Details Itinerary

After landing at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be greeted by a representative of AlpineTrav Treks & Expeditions who will drop you off at our hotel. Then check-in at the hotel, fresh up and relax. Kathmandu at night.

Today we are flying from Kathmandu to Lukla. The airstrip, built by Sir Edmund Hillary and the Sherpas in the mid-1960s, has a flight time of about 35 minutes. After landing we start the trek, where we follow the main trail from Chaurikharka to Phakding at 2713m. The walk is easy and after passing the small village of Ghat at 2550m, it is a short walk to Phakding where we will stay for the night.

From Phakding we cross high suspension bridges to reach Monjo Everest National Park This is the gateway to Everest National Park which was established to preserve and protect the fragile mountain environment. Then we hike steeply to Namche. If the weather is clear, one can see the first glimpse of Mount Everest. Namche is Khumbu's main trading village and has a busy to market - a meeting place for Hindu traders from the Terai and Tibetan yak caravans crossing the glacial Nangpa La. We spend the night in a beautiful hotel in Namche.

We stay at Namche for the second night to acclimatise to the altitude. Namche is a prosperous village, situated on a large protected moat. Its importance increased during the period when Tibetan salt was traded for grain from the lowlands of Nepal. After breakfast, there are several options: a visit to the National Park headquarters to see interesting displays of Sherpa lifestyle and culture. There are also mountain climbing demonstrations and descriptions of the park's flora and fauna.

From Namche the road turns west and the trail is almost flat as it heads into the Bhote Kosi Valley, once a popular trade route into Tibet. Along the way we pass many prayer flags and gem stones, all indicative of the Tibetan Buddhist culture of the region. After getting down at Bhotekoshi, the road reaches Thame. From here there are good views of the peaks of Teng Kangpoche and Kwangde.

The high valley beyond Thame sees few trekkers and remains the simple realm of yaks, farming and Sherpas. You walk through some really old, genuine Himalayan villages that mix together almost invisibly into the landscape before arriving at Lungde. We ascend all the way up to Lungde at (4500m). In the course of the hike, we can see great views of the vast Himalayan range up to Renjo la including the lovely views of Kyajo Ri as we arrive at Lungde.

Climb high and sleep low!! This is a day to haul up and rest without being idle. Our acclimatizing gets a further boost with our hike today and as we climb nearby hills with gasping breath we soon realize the gritty climb was worth the go. Doing this acclimatization helps in adapting with the high altitude, afterwards retrace back to Lungde for a free afternoon to rest.

Today it’s an early start for the trek up and away from the Bhote Koshi towards the ‘twin lakes’ below the Renjo La. Cutting through the lakes, we continue our approach to the Renjo La, following a well-used trail, with stone steps leading almost all the way to the top. We reach the summit prayer flags fluttering in the wind (5340m) after a long morning's walk and take time to benefit from the views across the ranges to Mount Everest - simply incredible. Then, after an initially steep descent, which may be snow covered, the trail becomes well set out once more with stone steps which descend towards the lakes of Gokyo. The third lake is known as Dudh Pokhari and on its east shore is the summer settlement of Gokyo Lake at (4790m).

After the long haul of crossing the Renjo La, there's the option today to chill out and go cool. Those who wish to make the most of this high and wild place can hike up to the 'Fifth Lake' for the ‘Scoundrel's View' of Everest. We spend a second night at our Gokyo lodge after exploring far and wide.

We will have breakfast, then we will take a steep path along the Dudhkoshi River to Machermo on the moraine of the Ngozumpa Glacier. From Machhermo we take a few hours walk to reach Dhole. Overnight at Dhole Lodge.

Trekking along rocky trails, we pass dense forests of rhododendron till we reach Phortse Thanga. We then trek to Mongla and then descend till Kyangjuma. Following the rocky trails, we pass some monasteries and walk on stone steps through Mani walls on our way to Namche Bazaar. Overnight at a lodge in Namche Bazaar.

On the last day of our trek, we cross several suspension bridges over Bhote Koshi River to reach Lukla. We exit Sagarmatha National Park in Jorsalle and pass the villages of Monjo and Bengkar to arrive in Phakding. From Phakding, we pass several small villages, painted Mani walls, and prayer wheels to reach Lukla. Overnight at a lodge in Lukla.

We get up early in the morning, enjoy our breakfast & get ready for the arrival of our aircraft for the flight back to Kathmandu. On our touchdown at the Kathmandu airport, we will be met by our office reps and transferred to your hotel. Rest of your day is free to do your own things.
