The Rolwaling Valley Trek is a relatively new and lesser-known trek in the Rolwaling region of Nepal. Located in the Gaurishankar Conservation Area (GCA), the trek route takes you through the beautiful Rolwaling Valley. It is a deep Himalayan valley nestled between the majestic Everest and Langtang mountain ranges. In 1951, Eric Shipman famously captured the footprints of the Yeti on film long ago. Hence, this valley is also known as the “Land of the Yeti”.
The Rolwaling Valley Trek itinerary begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Jagat. From here, you will begin your trekking journey. On the Rolwaling Trek route, you will pass through several traditional settlements inhabited by local communities of Sherpa and Tamang. You will trek through Simigaun, Beding, Na and retrace the same trekking route before returning to Kathmandu.
Beding is the largest settlement in the Rollwaling Valley, the largest settlement in the Rollwaling Valley. Furthermore, you will also explore Na village, where you will visit an ancient monastery where Buddhist guru Padma Sambhava is believed to have meditated for long periods. Another highlight of this trek is exploring one of the largest sacred glacial lakes in Nepal, the magnificent turquoise Tso Rolpa (4,580m).
Throughout the trek, the mesmerizing views of snow-capped mountains, including Mount Everest (8,848m), Cho Oyu (8,201m), Melungtse (7,181m), Gaurishankar (7,145m) Melungtse II (7,023m), etc., will captivate you! This area is one of the rare treks with basic teahouse facilities, but still, the rewarding panoramic views and unique culture are some of the best experiences you will ever experience in Nepal.
