Rolwaling Tashi Lapcha Pass Trek is a classic Himalayan trekking that ventures through the less-trodden route of Rolwaling into the famous Everest region via Tashi Lapcha Pass. Rolwaling Tashi Lapcha Pass Trek is one such trek that still holds the classic experience of Himalayan trekking. Our 17 days Rolwaling Tashi Lapcha Pass Trek has been tailored to keep every important aspect in mind and to ensure that you have the most amazing experience in one of the most remote parts of the Himalayas.
Rolwaling is perhaps the least visited part of the Himalayan region and this is what makes this place truly amazing. Rolwaling valley is rich in terms of cultural and natural beauty. The valley has a majority of Sherpa people living and has a very rich culture and tradition. There are several 6000m and 7000m peaks in Rolwaling valley and Rolwaling is also home to the famous Tso Rolpa and Omi Tso Lakes.
Our Trek begins from the Rolwaling region as we trek to Beding and Naa following the Tamakoshi River. We stay 2 nights at Beding and Naa villages for acclimatization and exploration before moving further. After a week of trekking allowing proper acclimatization, we arrive at Naa Gaon where we will spend two nights. Naa Goan is the last settlement of the Rolwaling region. we cross over the Tashi Lapcha Pass (5,755m/18,882ft) which links the Rolwaling region with the Khumbu region in 3 days from Naa Village. After crossing the Pass, we arrive at Thame and then continue to Namche Bazar the next day. Namche Bazar is the biggest settlement in the Everest region and is also known as the Sherpa capital. From Namche, we trek down to Lukla and fly back to Kathmandu.
In earlier days there were no teahouses/lodges in the Rolwaling region but now the locals have built teahouses/lodges in almost every place except for the 3 nights on this trek which is at the Tashi Lapcha Pass Area. Our choice of accommodation on this trek will be a mix of both teahouse/lodge and camping. For the 3 nights on the pass, it will be a fully camping trek.

After your arrival there is a sightseeing tour of the capital city of Nepal. Start with a visit to Boudhnath, two of the most famous UNESCO World Heritage Sites on the itinerary. Then take a short trip to Pashupatinath. It is a famous Hindu temple that is thronged by devotees from Nepal and India. Stayed at a hotel in Kathmandu at night.
We leave Kathmandu early in the morning and go to Dolkha. The route is scenic with views of Gauri Shankar and other mountains and peaks. From Dolkha we will continue our journey towards Charikot where we can observe the local life closely. We will reach Chechet in about 8 hours. Our trek starts from Chechet, we cross Tama Koshi river and reach Simigaun village. We will keep our camp near Gompa which is located about 20 minutes uphill from the village.
Leaving our camp at Simigaun, we will head northeast and make a moderate climb through green forests of blooming rhododendrons and other alpine flowers. This route from Tamakoshi Valley to Rolwaling Valley is scenic. We will follow the normal route and follow the route to Sambur Hill and Kyalche. Crossing a wooden bridge we reach Dhongang where we set up our camp in the forest.
After breakfast, we will leave Dhongang and walk along the Rolwaling River. Crossing the river, we will follow a path that leads north into the forest. Climbing slowly uphill, we will cross a clearing area and reach the scattered tea houses at Nyimare. Moving forward through the farmlands of Ramdung, we reach the Sherpa village of Beding in a narrow gorge.
Beding is the second largest settlement in Rolwaling area after Na. Beding village boasts of a century old monastery, traditional Sherpa houses, school and etc. We will explore the village and also do an adaptive hike in the nearby mountains.
The route will take us a little higher this day where we will experience cooler weather. Leaving the Sherpa village of Beding, we will walk slowly along the Rolwaling River to create a pleasant atmosphere. We will be blessed with close-up views of the surrounding mountains and peaks and awe-inspiring natural scenery. We reach Nama in 3 hours. Na was earlier a temporary settlement used by locals to graze their cattle, but now it has turned into the largest settlement in Rolwaling Valley.
From Na village, the view of the surrounding peaks is surreal and we can have a panoramic view of Chobutse Peak (6689m) above Cho Rolpa.
Another day of compatibility in Naa. This is done to allow our bodies to better adapt to the increased altitude. Today we will hike to a nearby mountain with the goal of high sleep less climbing.
There is no settlement after the na until you cross the nala and enter the Thame valley. Crossing the Chukima Pass we reach the famous glacier lake of Tsho Rolpa. Following the road through the moraine valley, we will approach the sandy area between Lake Tsho Rolpa and the Trakarding glacier where we will spend the night in camp.
From Chukima today we will head towards Tolomban. It is a short but tiring walk as we need to follow the rising path most of the day. The journey continues through a valley with no sign of habitation. Experience the sheer wilderness of a distant land on this day.
We should start our trek early in the morning before sunrise. Walking through the glacier, we will pass through a spur that allows easy access to the top of the glacier area. We may need the use of ropes to climb Tashi Lapcha pass. After 4 hours of strenuous climbing, we will reach the top of Tashi Lapcha which rewards us with a view of awe-inspiring scenery. The summit is marked with a kern and a prayer flag. We will go down to the other side and walk along the glacial lake to Tasi Phuk where we will stay for the night.
Leaving our camp, we head east on the snowy slopes. The trail goes down to Thame River and then to Thengpo. The route is scenic with views of Ama Dablam, Makalu and other peaks and mountains rising above the Thame River. We will go to the scattered temporary settlement of Thengpo. Along the pasture area, we follow the road to Thame.
After breakfast, leave Thame and head towards Namche. This is a lunch stop walk from Thame to Namche.
Last day of our trek through Dudhkoshi River to Lukla. After coming down from Namche, it is just a walk along Dudhkoshi river. We have lunch on the way and take the last flight to Lukla airstrip. The rest of the day is free and you can relax under the warm sun and reflect on the emotional experiences we had while hiking through these massive mountains that helped us rediscover ourselves in a possibly least expected way. This is our last day in these magnificent mountains. Later we celebrate the successful completion of our trek with our Sherpa guides and porters whom we have come to know well and are now good friends. Glad to end this amazing trip on a happy note. Then we fell into a blissful sleep.
Take a morning flight from Lukla to Kathmandu. We will be transferred to hotel in Kathmandu by private vehicle. Take a break and soothe your aching limbs from the strenuous hike.
Spend a free and easy day, perhaps shopping or relaxing in the hotel's beautiful courtyard. During the event, we will enjoy a farewell dinner to celebrate the successful completion of 'Everest the Hard Way'. While enjoying our dinner, we will also be entertained by an exciting cultural dance performed by local bells.
Please do not hesitate to let us know if you wish to extend your stay. Please email us for more details on extensions.
