Saribung Pass Trek

Duration for treks of this grade stretches up to three (3) weeks. Trails generally go above 5500 meters and on a daily basis, you can expect to be walking for about 5 – 7 hours, and involves occasional difficult days. Expect ups and downs as well for there will be hills to climb as well.

The best time to trek the Saribung Pass are Autumn (from September till November) and Spring (from March to May). The weather during these months tends to be clear and nice allowing us to enjoy the trekking to the fullest, and temperatures will drop considerably as you ascend higher every day. The nights are cold (between -10C to 5C) and the days are sunny and hot (between 10C to 20C). Mornings are usually clear, with clouds building up in the afternoon and disappearing at night.

Nepal visa can be obtained on arrival at Kathmandu airport (Tribhuvan International Airport) or you can obtain Nepal visa prior to your arrival through the Nepalese embassies, diplomatic missions and consulates near your location. Nepal Visa is also issued at the entry points if you are entering Nepal by land. Here are the visa fees:

For two (2) weeks – USD 30
For one month (4 weeks) – USD 50
For three months (90 days) – USD 125
For additional visa extension – USD 3 for each additional day

To get a Nepal visa, you will need the following documents:

Two recent passport-sized photographs with a light (white) background.
Cash (USD) depending on the number of days you plan to stay in Nepal.
A passport valid for at least six months.

For the Saribung Pass trek, you will need the following permits:-

Upper Mustang Restricted Area Permit – USD500 per person for 10 days. USD50 per day for any additional days.
Nar Phu Valley Permit – USD100 per person per week from September to November and USD75 per person per week from December to August.
Annapurna Conservation Area Permit – USD30 per person for the duration of the trek.

If you wish to climb Saribung peak – A climbing permit is required to climb Saribung peak. The cost of the permit issued by the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) depends on the season and the size of the team.

These are required by the government to regulate trekking/climbing activities and ensure that no one attempts to climb without preparation. Permits must be issued through a registered Nepali company.

• Also, controlling the number of climbers and trekkers protects the unique environment of the mountains, and helps fund conservation efforts in the area.
• And finally, when you apply for a permit, you state the route you plan to take; useful in case of any need for search and rescue.
• Restricted Area Permits: Restricted areas, mainly those near the Tibetan border, require permits as per government regulations.
• Annapurna Conservation Area Permit and Nar Phu Permit: Fees from these permits go towards conservation efforts in these unique areas.

It’s mandatory and highly recommended to get travel insurance before embarking on any adventurous trips in Nepal. We advise all our clients to get travel insurance that covers up emergency helicopter evacuation that may be needed in case of the occurrence of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) or any other reasons in high altitudes where there are no other means of transportation available. You will be led by our highly experienced mountain trekking guides, who have years of experience having visited Saribung Pass Trek multiple times. All of our guides are full-time employees, not freelancers, and are local experts fluent in English. They have extensive knowledge of the mountain, its people, culture, health, hygiene, and most importantly, your safety.

Upper Mustang region, falls under a controlled area as per the Government of Nepal. The region is categorised as a restricted area but trekking and climbing are allowed. To trek in this region, you need to be in a group of at least 2 accompanied by a licensed guide. So solo trekking for individual trekkers is prohibited in Upper Mustang Region.

You will only carry your day pack which will contain the essentials needed during the trek (water, camera, extra fleece, rain jacket, sunscreen, snacks, valuables etc.). The rest of your luggage will be carried by the porter. We provide 1 porter for every 2 participants and also provide a duffel bag to hold your trekking gear.
