21 Days Of Pure Camping Trek With A Full Support Crew
Darjeeling and Sikkim – Kanchenjunga Trek, an ancient Himalayan kingdom of Tibetan culture, this trek offers breath-taking views of the Himalayan range from Cho Oyo to Kanchenjunga. The Singalila range is one of the rare spots on earth where the view embraces five summits rising above 8000m, amongst them Everest, Makalu and Lhotse. On these 19th century English Lords trails, you will trek on easy narrow paths along the Indo-Nepali border, sometimes at the edge of the jungle, sometimes through rhododendron forests. The visit of the main Sikkim monasteries (Pemayangtse, Tashiding, Rumtek) provide a touch of culture and make of this journey a rare venture.
At first through luxuriant rhododendrons, pines, spruces and giants magnolias forests, then through green meadows and yak pastures, the trek leads us towards west Sikkim, close to the Nepali border. Along the Onglakhing glacier moraines and Samity sacred lake, we climb up to Gocha La pass, highlight of this magnificent itinerary, where we will savour the breath-taking scenery of the Talung glacier and the impressive east face of the third highest summit in the world, Kanchenjunga (8586m). Similarly, we are surrounded by Rathong (6679m), Kabru (7338m), Talung (7349m) to the south, and Kirat Chuli (7365m) and Pyramid Peak (7123m) to the north. Returning via a newly opened road, passing through lush green forests full of lianas and orchids, we finally reach Tashiding and drive to Gangtok end our trek.

INFO RELATED TO THIS TRIP
The duration of this category of treks is spread three (3) weeks. The treks usually go above 4000 meters and on a daily basis, you can expect to walk for about 5-7 hours. The perfect setting for an introduction to moderate to challenging trekking in Sikkim. The activity level/physical assessment is a bit more difficult than leisure and includes occasional tough days. Also expect ups and downs in the mountains for climbing.
The best seasons to trek from Yuksom to Goichala are autumn (September to December) and spring (March to May). During these months, the weather will be clear and nice, allowing us to fully enjoy the trek, and the temperature will drop significantly as we climb higher each day. The nights are still cold (from -10°C to 5°C) but the days are sunny and warm (from 10°C to 20°C). The mornings are usually clear, and clouds appear during the day and disappear at night. Nevertheless, it is worth trekking during these months.
A valid passport and tourist visa are required to visit India. The passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into India. Visas can be obtained from Indian consulates/embassies in your home country. Visa fees may vary from country to country.. More information: https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/evisa/
To get a India visa, you will need the following documents:
- Two recent passport-sized photographs with a light (white) background.
- Cash (USD) depending on the number of days you plan to stay in India.
- A passport valid for at least six months.
Yes, it is required. Due to its proximity to the China/Tibet border, a permit known as an Inner-Line Permit (ILP) or Restricted Area Permit (RAP) is required to enter every part of Sikkim. It is issued by the Sikkim Tourism Office, New Delhi and Gangtok.
It’s mandatory and highly recommended to get travel insurance before embarking on any adventurous trips. We advise all our clients to get travel insurance that covers up emergency helicopter evacuation that may be needed in case of the occurrence of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) or any other reasons in high altitudes where there are no other means of transportation available. It is advisable to review carefully the insurance and its coverages before making the final decision. More information: Travel Insurance
