Lukla to Tumlingtar Trek is a Himalayan glacier valley situated at the base of Makalu in the Sankhuwasabha district of Nepal. The valley lies entirely inside the Makalu Barun National Park. Arun Valley provides stunning contrasts, where high waterfalls cascade into deep gorges, craggy rocks rise from lush green forests, and colorful flowers bloom beneath white snow peaks. This unique landscape shelters some of the last pristine mountain ecosystems on Earth. Rare species of animals and plants flourish in diverse climates and habitats, relatively undisturbed by human kind.
The Valley of the mighty Arun Koshi forms the approach route for treks to the base camp of Makalu (8463m), the fifth-highest mountain in the world, as well as the culturally interesting exit trek from the Khumbu region to Tumlingtar. Most trekkers to the Everest Region finish their treks at Lukla, but an interesting alternative is to punch east from Solu Khumbu across three passes to the valley of the Arun Koshi. Most of the trekkers on this little-used route are climbing groups bound for Mera Peak, so independent trekkers can enjoy a level of seclusion unheard of on the Khumbu trails. This is a physically tough trek with lots of ups and downs and only the simplest teahouse infrastructure to support you. If you are at all squeamish about local-style accommodation, you are better off doing this as a camping trek. Alpine Trav Treks and Expeditions is always ready to manage your trek as per your interests and requirements.
