Upper Dolpo To Jomsom Trek Located in the middle of the Tibetan Plateau in the north, Dolpo has nurtured a long-standing relationship with its neighboring land, fostering a harmonious blend of Tibetan Buddhist culture and the ancient Bon religion, a precursor to the modern practices of Tibetan Buddhism. The isolated area was opened to hikers in 1989, but few people have seen its timeless lifestyle and culture retain much of its mystery. An iconic gem hidden away from the bustling world, Upper Dolpo fascinates with its awe-inspiring contrasts and mesmerizing grandeur. Few have set foot on this sacred ground, as gaining access requires special permission, rendering it an area shrouded in mystery. This is an exciting trek full of adventure through one of the most remote regions of Nepal. The Upper Dolpo To Jomsom trek is like nowhere else on the planet and is a special area of unsettling contrasts and stunning beauty.

Our journey from Upper Dolpo to Jomsom Trek is a 26 days Kathmandu to Kathmandu journey in clockwise direction starting from Jhupal and ending at Jomsom. We start our trek with a flight to Nepalgunj and next morning take another flight to Jhupal. Jhupal serves as the starting point of the trek and our trek will formally begin from here. From Jhupal we head north and trek for the first days through lower Dolpo to Dunai, deep blue Phoksundo Lake, waterfalls, high mountain passes and finally the royal villages of Shegompa and Dolpo. She Phoksundo is the Upper Dolpo region. We follow an old trade route over the high pass to the famous She Monastery next to Crystal Mountain. En route, we are treated to magnificent views of revered peaks like Kanjiroba, Annapurna Range, Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri as we conquer remote mountain passes offering breathtaking panoramic views.

The trek crosses several passes with Jugben La at 5,550m/18,040ft being the highest pass. We enjoy more Himalayan landscapes with mountain views as we pass the eastern crossing passes and finally reach the airport in Jomsom, the headquarters of Mustang district. From there we schedule our return to Pokhara and stay overnight in Pokhara. The next morning we return to Kathmandu after a 7-hour drive.
