Ghandruk Village Trek – 9 Days, Overview

Ghandruk Village Trek is a popular trekking trail in the Annapurna region that introduces Nepal to its magnificent scenery, Gurung culture and panoramic views of the mountains. It is one of the easiest treks in Nepal and people of all ages can do the Ghandruk Village Trek.

The Ghandruk Village Trek begins in Kathmandu with a visit to UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Likewise; Leaving the valley behind, the journey continues with a scenic flight to the lake city of Pokhara, followed by a short drive to Kimche via Nayapul. The trek, which starts from Kimche, reaches Ghandruk, the largest Gurung village in the Annapurna region.

The route follows dense forests filled with rhododendron, oak and pine trees. The Ghandruk Village Trek passes through traditional villages like Chomrong, Landruk and Dhampus, which are home to the Gurung community. This trek offers an opportunity to learn and understand the rich culture and traditions of the Gurung community living in the area. This trek will not only captivate you with its rich culture, it also offers panoramic views of snow-capped mountains like Annapurna South 7219m, Machhapuchhre 6993m, Hiunchuli 6441m, and many other peaks. The itinerary included in the package offered by AlpineTrav Treks & Expeditions is a guideline and standard format, which can be modified according to your time and needs.
The itinerary can be changed after mutual understanding between AlpineTrav Treks & Expeditions and the client. Additional activities can also be added or subtracted as per the client's request before the tour confirmation.
If the client wants to add some services, we will charge him for those additional services and if he wants to subtract some services, we will remove the charges accordingly.

Day 01 :

Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel

Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, Nepal. After completing visa formalities and collecting your luggage at the airport, please exit the arrival hall. Your tour leader will be waiting for you just outside the arrival hall and will take you to hotel in Kathmandu. Please look for a placard with your name on it at the exit of the arrival hall. Then depending on the time, you will have time to walk around the hotel and familiarize yourself near hotel.

Day 02 :

Visit the heritage sites of Kathmandu

Today is a full-day Kathmandu tour; in which you will explore various UNESCO sites in Kathmandu. We will start our tour with a visit to Pashupatinath, the holiest Hindu temple in Nepal. We will witness the Hindu cremation ceremony at Aryaghat, located on the banks of the Bagmati River. And we will visit Boudhanath, the largest Buddhist stupa in Nepal. We can see the rich Tibetan culture at Boudhanath. Similarly, we will end the day’s tour by visiting Kathmandu Durbar Square, the old royal residence of Nepal.

Day 03 :

Fly to Pokhara then drive to Kimche and trek to Ghandruk

Your journey begins in Kathmandu at an altitude of 1,350 meters (4,429 feet). After flying from Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be greeted by the lush greenery of Pokhara, which is at an altitude of 827m/2,714ft). Take a short break with tea in Pokhara, then take a short drive to Kimche and after the drive, hike to Ghandruk, where you will reach an altitude of 2,012m/6,601ft within an hour.

Day 04 :

Trek to Chomrong from Ghandruk

From Ghandruk, we will walk on a mountain path with stone steps, pass through a village, cross a suspension bridge and then you will find a dense bamboo forest. Finding yourself in complete solitude amidst the peace of nature can be a great experience. Your trek does not stop here. After trekking for some time, you will reach the tea houses of Komrong hill from where you can relax and enjoy a drink or snack while enjoying the Himalayan view. Then, you will resume your trek towards Komrong river by descending towards the north and climbing uphill for some time and then after a slight descent and taking a horizontal path, you will find Chomrong after a five to six hour trek. From Chomrong, you can enjoy the best and breathtaking views of Machhapuchhre.

Day 05 :

Trek to Landruk from Chomrong

A short walk from Chomrong will take us to a natural hot spring known as Jhinu Danda. Soaking in this refreshing hot spring is considered excellent for natural skin treatments. After lunch, it is a thrilling experience to descend further and cross the Modi River on a suspension bridge where we can see beehives hanging from the cliffs. From there we will hike up to Landruk, a delightful hill village. We will stay overnight there.

Day 06 :

Trek from Landruk to Pothana

After breakfast, start the trek towards Pothana. The trek goes up through the river valley and the forest of rhododendron, magnolia, oak, sandalwood and pine wher you will reach a top to Deurali. This gives you a magnificent view of the Annapurna mountain range, with notable peaks. From Deurali, the trek continues down a rocky path through more forest and moss-covered trees (keep an eye out for orchids). Once you reach the small village of Pothana, you will find various amenities including shops, tea houses and restaurants. Relax and enjoy the magnificent mountain views. From here you will have a view of the Lamjung Himalm, Annapurna range and Dhaulagiri.

Day 07 :

Trek to Phedi and drive back to Pokhara

Today, on the last day of your trek, today you will descend towards the foothills via Dhampus village, enjoying the last 3 hours of peaceful forest, mountain trekking. From the foothills, a short 45-minute drive will take you back to Pokhara. Upon reaching Pokhara, you can spend the afternoon exploring the city or take a leisurely boat ride on Phewa Lake, watching the reflection of the towering peaks in the calm waters.

Day 08 :

Drive to Kathmandu from Pokhara

After breakfast in Pokhara, you can also do some last minute shopping. Then you will head towards Kathmandu. You should grab the left seat of the tourist bus to get a great view of the mountains and the Marsyangdi River on the highway as this will probably be the last time you will see them. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will be transferred to the hotel; and you will spend the day at your leisure.

Day 09 :

Departure, or join optional activities

After breakfast and on your last day in Kathmandu, we will be ready to take you to the international airport three hours before your scheduled flight. It is a great honor to meet you in the Nepal Himalayas, and we pray for your safe journey home. We will remember the wonderful times we spent together. Have a nice trip!!! ACCOMMODATION

We will stay in Kathmandu at Hotel Vajra and Pokhara Hotel Mount View or similar category, which is a standard tea house/lodge during the trek, and this is all included in the cost of the trip. However; during the trek, your accommodation will be in simple teahouses/lodges with basic and shared facilities.

Most teahouses/lodges in the Annapurna region have squat toilets: most bathrooms are usually shared but we will arrange for you and your group to stay in local lodges on a daily basis. Please note that some of them are very basic and a sense of adventure is required.

In Kathmandu and Pokhara, your accommodation will be on a twin-shared basis and if you wish to have a single room, upon request you will need to pay a single supplement as mentioned in the trip cost. However, please note that there are less teahouses along the trekking route that do not allow single room accommodation. Paying a supplement guarantees a room in Kathmandu and Pokhara, but this may not always be possible in trekking areas. It’s generally impossible to arrange private rooms. This is the case even if you’re willing to pay extra since the teahouses owners will not give out a private room if it means someone else goes without a room.

MEALS ON THE TREK

During the trek, we will serve typical Nepali food, various ethnic dishes as well as all kinds of international dishes (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, and so on, Indian cuisine) from pizza and chips to apple pie. And breakfast includes bread, eggs, pancakes, muesli, granola, konflux, porridge as well as tea, coffee and hot milk with fresh fruits. Similarly, hot lunch will be served on the way to our next destination. Upon reaching the destination, meals and breakfast will be served at the teahouse/lodge where we will spend the night. However, in Kathmandu and Pokhara, we will only provide breakfast. Because you can taste the food you like, as there are high-quality delicious foods from different countries available. Therefore, you will have to arrange your own lunch and dinner during your stay in Kathmandu and Pokhara.

DRINKING WATER

We provide boiled water for drinking purposes in all our teahouses/lodges or camping treks. We strictly discourage the use of single-use plastic bottles such as mineral water on all our treks. Therefore, it is highly recommended to carry a hot water bottle. And you can ask your staff to fill the bottle with water.

How difficult is the Ghandruk Village Trek?

What is the best time to trek to Ghandruk Village?

Ghandruk Village Trek can be done year-round. The best advised time to trek there is fall (September to December and January, February to May) however it can be one of the wet areas in the Annapurna region.

Do I need travel insurance for this trek?

We advise all our clients to get travel insurance that covers up emergency evacuation that may be needed in case of the occurrence of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) or any other reasons in high altitudes where there are no other means of transportation available.
