The Gokyo Lakes and Renjo La Pass Trek is a beautiful and adventurous journey in Nepal’s Everest region, offering spectacular Himalayan scenery, turquoise glacial lakes, traditional Sherpa villages, and breathtaking mountain views. This trek is an excellent choice for trekkers who want to explore the quieter side of the Everest region while experiencing its natural beauty and rich local culture.
The journey begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, followed by a trek through charming Sherpa villages, peaceful forests, and the beautiful Dudh Koshi Valley. As you ascend through Namche Bazaar, Dole, and Machhermo, you will gradually adjust to the increasing altitude before reaching the magnificent Gokyo Lakes.
The Gokyo Valley is famous for its stunning turquoise lakes, surrounded by dramatic Himalayan peaks and the enormous Ngozumpa Glacier, the longest glacier in the Nepal Himalayas. An optional hike to Gokyo Ri (5,357 m / 17,576 ft) rewards you with panoramic views of Mount Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu, and the beautiful Gokyo Lakes.
One of the major highlights of this adventure is crossing Renjo La Pass (5,360 m / 17,585 ft). From the top, trekkers can enjoy extraordinary views of the Himalayan mountains, glaciers, and Gokyo Valley. After crossing the pass, the trail descends towards Lungden and continues through traditional Sherpa settlements, including Thame, before returning to Namche Bazaar and Lukla.
