14 Days

Trip Highlights

  • Views of high mountain ranges
  • Mid hill cultural and total wild experience
  • Annapurna, Lamjung area, less visited route
  • Wildlife, flora and fauna, butterflies, many types

Lamjung Himal is a rare trekking area in the Annapurna region. On this 15-day trek, you’ll see an amazing cross-section of Nepal and incredible views of the Himalayas. Our camping trek starts from Bensisahar in Annapurna. It is the traditional starting point of the famous Annapurna Circuit. Our trail does not follow the Marsyangdi Valley, Annapurna’s most popular trek. Our trail heads west through traditional Gurung villages and farms. Then you enter the rhododendron and bamboo forest area. In the alpine zone above the tree line. We have included this trek in our selection of best Annapurna treks in Nepal. (Lamjung Himal Trek).

Trekking, start walking from the top of Ghanpokhara village. We follow this with a three-day stay in the grazing grounds known as “Kharka” en route to Valley Camp at an altitude of 3,717 meters. From here we enjoy a hike up to Rambrong West peak (4,384m). From here the view of Himalayans. Lamjung (6,983 m), Ganesh Himal (7,422 m) Machhapuchhre (6,997 m) and can be seen Everest. (8,163 m) Manaslu can be seen to the west. Chuli in the east. Similarly, from Valley Camp the trail descends to another ridge. After three days of walking, we reach Tangting village. On this hill we camp at Kharka from where there are excellent we see in the mountains view. And we drive from Tangting to Pokhara.

However: It is an easy to moderate trek suitable for anyone. The highest elevation marked during your adventure to Lamjung Himal is 3,717m. On average, the trail demands 4-6 hours of trek. But there are no lodges in Lamjung Himal region so organize this trek as a camping style trek. The trails in Nepal with lodges are getting busier. Choosing a camping trek means you access a remote region less frequented.

Details Itinerary

Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, Nepal. Upon completing the visa formalities and collecting your luggages in the airport, kindly proceed to the exit of the arrival hall. Please look out for a placard of your name at the exit of arrival hall. Your trip leader will await you just outside the arrival hall and will escort you to your hotel in Kathmandu. Welcome drinks will be served and after you’ve refreshed, your trek leader will brief you about your trip.

Today, after early morning breakfast, we will head west and follow the Prithvi Highway along Trishuli River to the homeland of Central Himalaya including Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and Machhapuchhre. The road offers an opportunity to have a view of rustic Nepal that comprises green hills, river, villages and snow-clad mountains at the backdrop. We will part our ways with the Highway at Dumre and choose the branched off route to Besisahar and continue following the Masryangdi River, we will reach Besishahr.

You will follow the road uphill from Besisahar today through farmlands and paddy roof. We pass a Gurung monastery and the beautiful village of Chami Danda (1,000m) with its small school. We take a jeep track for a short distance through many traditional houses. You can see the jeep track making its way around the ridge. At the right-hand turn, we take the trail straight into the forest. It is very steep and slippery in places. We again cross a jeep track as we hike uphill to Kolo.

Today, we walk on a rarely used jeep track for fabulous views of Lamjung Himal (6,983m) and Manaslu (8,163m). Turning off the track we take a stepped stone path up the ridge. We pass through the quiet village of Kapurgaon with a small Gurung monastery. The next village of Ghalegaon is larger and it is likely you will have lunch here. You can explore the village while lunch is being prepared and there is a viewpoint and temple to see. We also have to check in at the ACAP office to show the permits. Likewise, the trail keeps going uphill passing the Samba Cheeling monastery. Finally, we reach the village of Ghanpokhara at 2,158m where we camp for the night.

As we leave the village a sign guides us to the start of our hike uphill. We follow a forested ridge with the occasional meadow known as a kharka. Similarly, after about 5km we reach a shepherd’s hut where we will stop for lunch. Leaving our lunch spot we head uphill on a stone-stepped path. Further up we reach a couple of kharkas where we will spend the night at camp.

This morning we leave again head uphill on a stoney stepped path. We reach a place called Palma Kharka (3,100m) where there are excellent views. We continue on a lovely trail through rhododendron. After a short steep we reach at 3,400m. After 6 km we start heading to the right of the ridge to find a good water supply for camp.

Leaving the camp we follow a pleasant trail. This brings us to a beautiful valley where we will spend two nights. Tomorrow is our base camp for the walk to the Rambrong West Summit (4,384m).

This day we leave valley follow a faint trail heading towards the shepherd’s hut. We cross over several small streams. By following the path signposted to Dudh Pokhari we zig zag up a hill to a lovely kharka with water at 4,100m. There is a prominent rocky summit straight ahead. There is a path heading up to the left of it before curving around to the right. Follow this until you reach the first Col then follow the path ahead to the next Col. This is the chance to bag a 4,000m summit. It is possible to walk further along the ridge but this would only be suitable for fit and strong walkers.

We retrace our step a bit from our valley camp, then turn right and start heading towards the mountains. From here we go around the mountain. We increase the height until we reach the saddle. We then descend into a beautiful valley with water and flat land for a lunch stop at 3,800m. After lunch, we head south. And we descend into the deep forest and so again we descend the steep path of Kharka. Then we go up and after reaching a pleasant camp we are amazed by the panoramic views of Machhapuchare Himal (6,997 m) and Annapurna Himal.

The first 7.5 km of the day follows the ridge up and down enjoying the mountain views. After the hut and pond we turn right and descend a steep path through the forest. It is slippery and unclear in places. The trail levels out and we arrive at a large ridge where we camp for the night.

From the camp we continue downhill along the ridge where we reach a sacred place called Nain Fiji. Leaving here we go down a long stone staircase. Finally we see the village of Tangting. The campsite is at the school, and overnight at camp.

Go to Pokhara by private vehicle. For the rest of the day you can relax and enjoy the lakeside city of Pokhara.

Kathmandu is separated from Pokhara by 200km. Prithvi Highway links Pokhara with Kathmandu. It takes 6 hrs to reach Kathmandu from Pokhara by private vehicles. You will be transferred to the hotel where you will have a pleasant stay.
