The Sagarmatha region is located in the eastern part of Nepal. It is protected by the Sagarmatha National Park, which was established in 1976 and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with an area of 1148 square kilometers. The park is mainly made up of the rugged terrain and gorges of the High Himalayas. The world’s highest mountain, Mount Everest, known in Nepali as “Sagarmatha”, meaning “forehead of the sky”, is the goddess mother of the world, and has long been a major attraction for nature lovers and trekkers. Where most of the world’s highest peaks are concentrated, including Mount Everest, Lhotse and Cho-Oyu, and Mount Makalu. Beyond the Everest region, the Imja Tse Valley is just a short distance away. The Everest region is the most popular and high-adventure trekking region in eastern Nepal, which includes treks such as the Everest Base Camp Trek, the Everest Three Pass Trek, the Gokyo Lake Trek, the Gokyo Chola Pass Trek, the Phaplu-Everest Base Camp Trek, and the Jiri-Everest Base Camp Trek. Solukhumbu, the heart of the Sagarmatha region and an integral part of the Himalayan mystique, offers a welcoming destination for these adventure lovers.
The Everest region is where trekkers and adventurers can experience the true spirit of the mountains and the challenges ranging from trekking-climbing to full-fledged mountaineering adventures, as well as immerse themselves in the local Sherpa culture of Buddhism, which is very interesting and hospitable.
There are various options to choose from within the Everest region, ranging from a short moderate trek of a week to more than two weeks of trekking to Everest Base Camp and the scenic Kalapathar at 5,545 meters. It offers a panoramic view of the peaks with Everest in the distance. Similarly, other scenic treks lead to the Gokyo Valley and its beautiful, tranquil glacial lakes, where there are breathtaking views of the world’s four highest peaks, Everest, Lhotse, Cho-Oyu and Mount Makalu. The Gokyo Ri Viewpoint includes a series of smaller peaks from the top of the mountain, with the option of crossing the high Cho-La Pass to reach Everest Base Camp or taking the other high pass of Renjo-La towards Thame village too.
