The journey to the Everest region’s destination primarily begins after reaching Lukla. Flights to Lukla are available from both Kathmandu and Ramechhap. Although it is easy and convenient to fly from Kathmandu to Lukla, travelers must take the flight from Ramechhap during the peak season due to the Kathmandu airport’s congestion. The flight from Katmandu’s domestic airport to Tenzin Hillary Airport of Lukla takes 30 minutes, whereas it takes only 15 minutes from the Manthali airport of Ramechhap to Lukla. However, it takes 4-5 hours to drive from Kathmandu to Ramechhap, making it a long journey. Yet, whichever airport you fly from, you’ll get an amazing aerial view of the Himalayas through the bird’s eye. FAQs
For a great start in planning a climb to the Everest Base Camp trek, it is always commendable to know a bit more of the area and grab hold of a few checkpoints as well. These Everest Base Camp FAQs answers your most important question marks and provides tips to plan your EBC trek confidently. So, let’s get into them.
FAQs About Annapurna and Everest Trek
The cost of the Everest and Annapurna Trek is USD 2,160 per person. However, the cost varies depending on various factors, including the group size, the level of luxury preferred, trekking duration, whether to hire a guide and porter and personal miscellaneous expenses.
The Mani Rimdu festival is primarily celebrated in Tengboche Monastery during the autumn season of October and November, according to the Tibetan lunar calendar. The festival typically occurs during the 9th Tibetan month, which corresponds to the full moon in October or November.
The Annapurna and Everest trek is generally considered moderately difficult. However, it is suitable for trekkers with a general fitness level who are comfortable with moderate elevation gains. Still, the high elevation, rugged terrain, steep ascents and descents, and unpredictable weather add to the trek’s difficulty.
The monks at Tengboche Monastery follow a structured daily routine that includes prayer, meditation, and community service. The day begins with morning prayer and meditation, often followed by scripture chanting. Then, each monk meditates, reads, and studies individually. Then, worship is performed throughout the day.
No, photography and videography are not permitted inside the monastery due to religious beliefs and respect for sacred spaces. However, you can take plenty of pictures outside the monastery, including its architecture, exterior design, wooden carvings, and prayer wheels.
There aren’t any ATMs or money exchange facilities near Tengboche. The last destination where you can find facilities is Namche Bazaar, which is quite far from Tengboche, taking 6-7 hours to walk. Thus, we recommend that trekkers withdraw or exchange money at Namche.
While the trek doesn’t demand a high fitness level, preparing beforehand is a pulse point. Thus, trekkers should prepare physically for the Annapurna and Everest Trek by engaging in cardiovascular, strength, and endurance training. Likewise, trekkers should be encouraged to walk if possible, making it easier during the trek.
Trekkers should observe certain etiquette when entering the monastery of Tengboche, including dressing modestly, avoiding revealing clothing, refraining from touching monks or religious objects, maintaining silence, and removing shoes before entering the monastery. Likewise, trekkers should respect the local culture while entering the monastery.
Generally, spending two nights is recommended to fully experience and witness the beauty of the area and the monastery. This allows oneself ample time to explore the monastery, enjoy the views, and acclimatize to the altitude. However, the peaceful ambiance of a monastery makes trekkers feel inclined to stay for a longer time.
