Ganja La is one of the most challenging trek in Nepal which it is most difficult pass
The Ganja La Pass Trek via Langtang Valley is an amazing trekking experience in the Lang Tang region. which lies below the main Himalayan border on the northern Tibetan border and a slightly lower range of snowy peaks to the south. At an altitude of 16,800 feet above sea level, the Ganja La Pass is one of the most difficult passes. During this trek, we also make an interesting hiking to Tserko Ri (4,984m) which offers great views of the Langtang Himalaya range.
Just a few miles from Kathmandu, the Langtang region is known to be as wild as the Tibetan highlands, the region is also famous for the Gosaikund Lake. The people living in the highlands of the Langtang area are definitely Nepali, but they still look Tibetan because they are descendants of Tibetan origin. The trek also offers opportunities to visit Tibetan villages, such as Tamang villages, climb small peaks and visit glaciers at a comfortable low altitude. Here you will get to know their culture, tradition, unique dress style, ancient business style and hardships of rural life too.
We will travel north from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi, a distance of about eight hours, and the next day we will start our journey to the Lama Hotel. With green rhododendrons, bamboo forests, majestic waterfalls and snow-capped Himalayas, this trek is one of the most diverse treks near Kathmandu. Starting from Syabrubesi, the trek passes through Kyanjin Gompa and the mighty Ganjala Pass to Melamchi pokhari Bazaar in Helambu region. Kyanjin Gompa is the last Tibetan village in the valley, from where the trek begins over Ganja La Pass (5,200m) to Helambu.
The pass itself is not easy, the pass is open to trekkers in autumn and spring. The pass requires the use of technical climbing equipment and hikers must be proficient in its use and prepared to assist less equipped porter staff. The trail follows a small valley before reaching a glaciated pass where the use of ropes, crampons and ice axes may be necessary. If you are trekking during spring the forest along the trail is colorful and full of rhododendrons. At the end of the trip, you will also visit some beautiful rice terraces and several magnificent Buddhist monasteries around the picturesque villages of Tarke Gyang and Sermathang before returning to Kathmandu.
