It is a circuit that goes far beyond Everest Base Camp and crosses three major high-altitude passes of the Everest region: Kongma La pass at 5,535 meters, Cho La pass at 5420 meters, and Renjo La pass at 5,360 meters. This route offers a complete and in-depth experience of Everest’s vast mountain wilderness, combining the thrill of remote passes with visits to iconic places like Gokyo, Everest Base Camp, and Kala Patthar.
This trek, starting with Kongma La Pass and ending with Renjo La Pass. This sequence allows for gradual acclimatization, fewer crowds during the early days, and a natural visual progression of the Everest panorama. The views get better and better as you approach Renjo La Pass, Gokyo Ri, and cross into the Ngozumpa Glacier. Over 21-days, you will pass through glacial valleys, ancient Sherpa villages, and high alpine wilderness that most trekkers never reach. The trail begins on the quieter side of the Bhote Kosi Valley, giving you a peaceful and steady ascent with multiple acclimatization stops built into the itinerary. This trek involves long hiking days at elevations above 5000 meters, so it requires strong physical fitness and mental preparedness. It is not suited for beginners or first-time high-altitude trekkers. But for those with prior trekking experience who are ready to take on a real challenge, this journey offers one of the most rewarding and complete Himalayan experiences.
What sets AlpineTrav apart is our deep local connection. Some of our guides grew up in the very villages you will walk through, offering insight that goes far beyond guidebook knowledge. We maintain a high guide-to-client ratio, and design every itinerary with proper pacing and safety as our top priorities. So, this is not just a trek. It is a full exploration of the Everest region through its highest and wildest terrain. For fit and experienced trekkers looking for something more ambitious than the classic base camp route, the Everest Three High Passes Trek offers an unforgettable mountain journey rich in challenge, solitude, and scenery. The journey begins with a mountain flight to Lukla, followed by a trek through Phakding to Namche Bazaar. The return follows the quieter route via Renjo La, Thame and back through Namche to Lukla. Two acclimatization days are built into the itinerary to ensure safety and a smoother adjustment to high altitude.

The final climb to Cho La can be a bit difficult as the path winds around a gorge. The pass is marked with prayer flags and cairns. The views of the majestic peaks in all directions are breathtaking. Although long, the path to Thangnak is not difficult. Your path takes us to the edge of the Ngojumpa Glacier, the longest glacier in Nepal. Views from the Renjo La pass are much like that from Gokyo Ri with the third Gokyo Lake and Gokyo Village beneath the gray smear of the Ngozumpa Glacier. You will also get outstanding views of Mt. Everest from the top of the pass. Continuing on from the pass, your trail winds down a stone staircase and then moves over a loose scree to reach the south bank of Angladumba Tsho Lake. The prescence of ice on the trail while descending down can make your descent a bit hazardous. Along the way you will see Relama Tsho and Renjo Lake.
