Nubra Valley lies to the north of Leh and was once the gateway to the Silk Route. The valley has vast alluvial plains and bactrian camels, which roam the sandy banks of the Shyok River. Nubra valley is the Siachen Glacier and to the north west Sasser Pass and the famous Karakoram Pass that connect Nubra with Xinjiang in China. Previously there was much trade passing through the area to East Turkestan and Central Asia as part of the Silk Route.
Shyok valley has vast alluvial plains with bactrian camels roaming around the sand dunes grazing the seabuckthorn bushes. This is a circuit trek in one of the least visited areas of Ladakh with unspoilt landscape and stunning views of the Karakoram mountains especially from the summit of Lasermo la pass at 5,400m.
This trip starts in Delhi flight to Leh. After a few days acclimatising you drive on the highest road in the world over Khardung La into Nubra Valley. Later on you will stop at Diskit village to visit monastery one of the oldest in the Nubra Valley. Moreover; you spend two nights at Hundar village to help with your acclimatisation and also hopefully you will get the chance to ride a Bactrian camel in the sand dunes of this valley.
Nubra and Shyok Valley Trek designed our itinerary for plenty of time for the necessary acclimatisation to high altitude to maximise your chances of successful crossing Lasermo La back to Leh. Before crossing Lasermo la you leave the main valley to trek up a remote side valley to Sniu Sumdo campsite where you spend two nights. For the next day there is a good day walk from this campsite to some glacial lakes surrounded by impressive peaks such as Sahib Chasa, Leona Peak and Sniu Kangri.
The crossing of Lasermo la pass is a good walk with superb views over to the Karakoram, Zanskar and Ladakh range of mountains. Finally; you end the trek at Phyiang and after visiting Phyiang monastery you’ll drive back to Leh.

14-Days Nubra Shyok Valley Trek Itinerary
Arrive in Leh and check into the hotel. It is best to rest and stay hydrated for the rest of the day to help your body adjust to the high altitude. You will be given complete rest throughout the day to acclimatize yourself to the new environment at an altitude of 11,135 feet. In the evening, trek to Shanti Stupa (Vishwa Shanti Stupa). This trek offers beautiful views of the Stok Kangri mountain range and the Indus Valley, it also helps your body adjust to the altitude. Spend the night in Leh.

During today's sightseeing you visit Shey palace and Thiksey Monastery. Thiksey is a beautiful monastery and is sometimes called the mini Potala. It contains stupas, statues, thankas, and wall paintings. There is also a large pillar engraved with the Buddha's teachings. The sightseeing is by private cars as Shey and Thiksey are about 10 kms out of Leh.

In the morning, you will visit the Leh Durbar, the residence of the royal family built in the 17th century. The Durbar is located on a hilltop and offers a spectacular bird's eye view of the city. Enjoy the serene atmosphere of Leh while taking in the spiritual essence of this enchanting place. You leave the afternoon free to do what you like. Your route to access the Nubra and Shyok Valleys is to travel over the Khardung La from Leh. The Khardung La (5,395m) is the highest driveable road in the world. You will have obtained Inner Line Permit to enter Nubra Valley and these will be inspected as you leave Leh. After passing Diskit you then continue into the Shyok Valley to Hundar, one of the few areas in the world where grazing bactrian camels are seen.
Moreover; Diskit Monastery also known as Deskit Gompa or Diskit Gompa is the oldest and largest Buddhist monastery (gompa) in the Nubra Valley of Ladakh, northern India. It belongs to the Gelugpa (Yellow Hat) sect of Tibetan Buddhism. It was founded by Changzem Tserab Zangpo, a disciple of Tsong Khapa, founder of Gelugpa, in the 14th century. It is a sub-gompa of the Thikse gompa.
The Nubra Valley is about 150km north of Leh, the capital town of Ladakh. Local scholars say that its original name was Ldumra (the valley of flowers). The Shyok River meets the Nubra or Siachan River to form a large valley that separates the Ladakh and the Karakoram Ranges. The average altitude of the valley is about 3,050m above sea level. After breakfast, you will cross several bridges this morning before entering a gorge where the path is carved out of the steep cliffs on the right. The trail then continues through the barren landscape and climbs above the gorge before arriving at Skarchen. You'll pass under a huge rock overhang before arriving in Skarchen.

The trail today uses paths carved out of the rock cliffs in the river valley and from time to time climbs higher above the river. You will pass chortens and cross simple bridges before reaching the wheat fields which mark the approach to Hundar Dok.

Your accommodation during the trek will be fully tent camping. A tent with foam mattress will be provided for every 2 travelers. There will also be a kitchen tent, dining tent, toilet tent, table, chairs. We will have mules to load all this equipment.

All meals are included throughout the trek. We will provide three meals a day during the trek. Our kitchen team will serve freshly prepared meals during the trek. We consider hearty and delicious food to be a key ingredient for the overall success of our trek.
Since this is a full camping trek, meals are prepared by the trekking cook and usually include warm, nutritious options such as soup, rice, pasta and vegetable curries. Finally, there will be also farewell dinner in Leh.

Typical day during the Nubra Shyok Valley Trek
The daily wake-up time while on the trek will be between 6:00 AM and 7:00 AM. During the camping period, you will be provided with a small basin of hot water for your morning bath and a cup of tea in your tent. After a hearty breakfast, you will set out on the day’s hike. Before breakfast, you will need to pack your duffel bag as it will be loaded by the mules, after you have breakfast. After a few hour hike, you will stop for lunch. The afternoon hike is usually shorter and you will usually reach camp site, your destination in time for afternoon tea. The rest of the time can be spent exploring, doing laundry or relaxing with a good book.
