You'll wake up early today at around 12 to 1am and have your breakfast before beginning your climb. It is important you'll reach the summit before noon because in the afternoon the strong winds in the highlands might become a barrier for a successful summit. The trail moves up beyond the base camp for several hundred meters before striking off the steep hillside. Initially sandy, the path soon turns to grass before becoming boulder strewn. As you climb up the hill, you will see that the slope narrows and the trail enters a steep rock channel. You climb the rock gully. This is not difficult, but there are several short rock steps to climb before you'll emerge on the right side of the gully. The route then follows a ridgeline, which leads to an exhilarating and exposed traverse onto the snout of the summit glacier. The guides will fix a rope when required. A steep snow slope leads you onto the summit ridge. Both fixed rope and man rope will be used during the climb for safety. You will use fix rope after successfully climbing on rock. The length of the rope will usually be of 350m. However, the length depends on the time of the season and the crevasses. There are two newly formed crevasses which are approximately 3 and 4 meters long. You will be using ladders to cross them. At the top of the ridge you will find an array of stones with prayer flags used as memorials to Scott Fischer (American mountaineer) and 10 times Everest summitter Babu Chiri Sherpa (mountain guide from Nepal) who perished on a mission to climb Everest. As the trail drops to the Khumbu Glacier moraine, you find ourselves right “in front of” several great peaks – Khumbutse, Lingtren, Pumori and Mahalangur Himal. You are now in the vicinity of Everest but the great mountain still remains hidden. By this stage the effects of the altitude will be kicking in and you can feel colder nights. Overnight at Lobuche.

Take the trail to Everest Base Camp through the once vast Gorakshep Lake. Continuing straight ahead, come through the Indian army mountaineers’ memorials. The path from here can be misleading, hence follow the lead Sherpa, every year the trail changes due to the movements of the glacier – the walk is quite strenuous due to thin air in high altitude, passing through over rocky dunes and moraine and streams – until you'll reach the base camp. As you'll reach Everest Base Camp, you cannot stop ourselves from appreciating the Everest climbers who take the hazardous route through the Khumbu Icefall. Everest Base Camp is lively with commotion during the high expedition season. Mountaineer’s tents stand out in bright colors against all the dull gray surroundings (especially in spring). Nuptse, Khumbutse, Pumori are the mountains you can view from base camp but Everest itself is not visible from here. You will get back to Gorakshep for a good night’s rest. However, the sunset view from Kalapatthar is more admirable than the sunrise view. As the setting sun’s rays strike the snow capped mountains the resulting scenery is indescribable. For those trekkers who wish to continue to Kalapatthar your guides and Sherpas coordinate a hike to Kalapatthar for amazing sunset view today rather than waiting until the next day. Overnight at Gorakshep.
Hiking: 6-7 hrs
Maximum Elevation: 5,364m/17,599ft
Accommodation: Hotel/Teahouse/Lodges
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

However, you need to get prepared for an early morning, dark and cold temperature (-10 to -14 C) departure beforehand. Plus there is always the potential for chilly winds which are quite common. Familiar peaks such as Lingtren, Khumbutse, Changtse tower to the east even as Everest begins to reveal itself emerging between the west shoulder crest and Nuptse. During the ascent to Kala Patthar you can pause to catch your breath at several outstanding view points to snap pictures. After several hours of an ascent, you'll reach Kala Patthar. From here you scramble to climb the rocky outcrop near to the summit marked by cairns and prayer flags. As you'll reach the top, you'll sit on the Kala Patthar rocks your eyes taking in the unbelievable Himalayan Panorama, wandering from one mighty massif to another. You take as many pictures as you can with your camera and take the in view with your mind’s eye to last lifetime. After passing a Chorten, you'll reach the army camp at of Namche Bazaar. You will want to take a long last look (and picture!) back to Lhotse, the tip of Everest and Tengboche from here. Any remaining sore throats and colds will be gone by today as you'll pass through this charming mountain air. Although you are travelling the same route down, you'll feel completely different views. Please note that often Kathmandu-Lukla-Kathmandu flights are delayed by a few hours or may even be cancelled for one, two or more days due to adverse weather conditions. Such situations can arise even in the best of weather conditions. Therefore, in such cases, you should be prepared for a long wait at either Kathmandu or Lukla airport, as this may happen at the beginning or end of the trek or both! We try our best to avoid such delays, and fix you on the next flight. However, we suggest you to be prepared for possible delays/cancellations, and if possible, come with some extra buffer days (1-2 days) at the end of the trip to accommodate such delays. If available and upon request of our clients, we also arrange for heli rescue in such cases. The helicopter charges are around USD 3500 and can lift 4-5 people per flight. If everything goes smoothly and if there is interest, you can also enjoy other activities like sightseeing, rafting, wildlife activities, shopping, etc. during your buffer days.
In case, the flight delay/cancellation happens at the start of trip and it goes so long that it disturbs your onward travel schedule, you are free to choose an alternative trip: such a trek in the Annapurna, Langtang, or any other regions. If you are not interested in the alternative trip and would rather wait for the trip, you are welcome to wait in Kathmandu for as many days as it takes to get a flight to Lukla. However, please note that there will be no refund, if you lose your time waiting at the airport and do not take an alternative tour or you only do short trek later due to time limitation. If the cancellation happens before the trip, we will provide you accommodation and lunch in a guesthouse in Kathmandu. In case of the flight delay/cancelation after finishing of the trek, you will be responsible for all your expenses. Please also note that you will not be entitled to any refund for the services (such as hotel, transport, flight, etc) included in the package that you would not use later.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
This trip is considered challenging due to the long duration of trekking/climbing up to 6000m. You will be required to sleep at 5000m+ for a few days. Physically demanding, approximately 6-8 hours of daily trekking is involved and the days leading up to the summit will be 10-12 hours. Previous climbing and trekking experience at high altitudes will be beneficial and you will need a strong physical endurance level. This grade of trip involves the use of summit climbing equipment (harness, crampons, mountaineering boots, ascenders). However, we also offer a climbing course at base camp before the actual climb where your guides will teach you the skills required for the climb.
Although it is possible to climb Khumbu 3 Peaks all year round except during the monsoon months, the best times to climb Khumbu 3 Peaks are spring and autumn. The spring season runs from March to early June and is also the busiest climbing season of the year. The autumn season runs from September to November when temperatures are moderate and the weather is clear. Climbers have attempted to climb Khumbu 3 Peaks in the winter in the past, but the extreme cold during the winter months can be quite dangerous for some. Summer weather invites rain and does not offer good views during the climb. Therefore, we do not recommend it.
It’s mandatory and highly recommended to get travel insurance before embarking on any adventurous trips. We advise all our clients to get travel insurance that covers up emergency helicopter evacuation that may be needed in case of the occurrence of AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness) or any other reasons in high altitudes where there are no other means of transportation available. It is advisable to review carefully the insurance and its coverages before making the final decision. More information: Travel Insurance
