Trekking in Nepal

Nepal is home to eight of the fourteen highest peaks in the world, including the tallest – Mount Everest. With some of the best trekking trails in the world, the Himalayas in Nepal draws thousands of trekkers every year. The magnificent mountains in Nepal host great hiking and trekking trails for everyone, be it a novice trekker or an experienced trekker. Since the 1960s, Nepal has introduced itself as the land of the Himalayas and a trekkers’ paradise. Trekking in Nepal is undoubtedly the most popular and unique activity in Nepal. Unique in the sense that nowhere else can you trek for days and embrace the beauty of some of the highest mountains in the world. Trekking to Nepal has been a dream of every trekker, mountain-lovers, and adventurer alike.

Especially Everest, Annapurna, and Langtang, offer breathtaking mountain scenery and a lifetime experience. Apart from Everest, Annapurna, and Langtang trekking regions, there are other regions as well that boast popular trekking trails. Ranging from an easy hike to challenging treks or short to long trekking, the Himalayas in Nepal offers what we call a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You also can hike to the outskirt of Kathmandu for a day, head to the mountains to indulge in the weeks-long trek, or embrace the mountain with the luxury of a helicopter tour. The most popular treks, include Everest Base Camp, Gokyo Valley, Langtang Valley, Annapurna Base Camp. If you want to walk through a challenging trail, then you are better off trekking through ‘Everest Base Camp via Gokyo Lakes and Cho La Pass, Everest Three High Passes, Dhaulagiri Circuit, Annapurna Circuit or Manaslu trekking.

If you are a first-timer trekking in Nepal, then the Annapurna Poonhill or Langtang Valley Trek is best suited for you. From the perspective of the short trek or weeks-long trek, you can choose from a wide range of treks. Ghandruk Village Trek, Annapurna Poonhill Trek, and Annapurna Base Camp Trek, Khopra Ridge Trek, Mardi Himal Trek, are among the short treks in Nepal. Similarly, Kanchenjunga Trek, Upper Dolpa and Lower Dolpo Trek, Makalu Base Camp Trek, Manaslu Circuit, and Nar Phu Valley Trek fall under long treks in Nepal.

Regardless of the weather, trekking can be done throughout the year in Nepal. However, the best trekking seasons are Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November). Rainy or monsoon season is known as ‘off-season’ as the trails are dangerous due to rain. Trekking and hiking in Nepal are fun and full of adventure. There is something for everybody, be it long adventurous treks or short easy hikes, which are equally rewarding. Upper Mustang trek, Upper Dolpo, Dolpo to Mustang Trek, Nar Phu Valley, Lower Mustang, and a few other trek destinations are deemed the best treks for the rainy season. These regions are protected by Himalayan rain shadow. If you wish to trek in Winter (December to February), there are winter treks in Nepal like Annapurna Poonhill Trek, Everest View Trek, Pikey Peak Trek, Tengboche Monastery Trek, Khopra Ridge Trek, Helambu Trek and many more can do in the lower altitudes.
